Wins trophy at Mildmay 11th annual tourney
Our PeeWee "A" team brought
home another trophy for our
showcase by winning the
Mildmay tournament this past
weekend, Their first game on
Saturday morning found them
playing Paisley whom they
defeated 10-2. Scoring for
Brussels was Terry McCutcheon 3
goals, Ken Higgins 2, Mike
Watson 2,• Garry McWhirter,
Brian Tenpas, Ken Cousins, 1
each. Assists went to Darwin
McCutcheon, Ken Cousins, Brian
Tenpas, Ken Higgins, David
Engel, Terry McCutcheon.
Their second game on Saturday
brought them against a team from
Sarnia Township whom, they
squeaked by 3 - 2. Brussels' goals
were shared by Ken Cousins,

McCutcheon.
On Sunday they returned to
play a team from Belmore whom
they defeated 7 - 0 to win the
championship. Goal scorers were

tournament held in Lucknow last
Saturday. Their first game at
noon found them playing the
Tceswater team. The final score
was Brussels 10,. Teeswater 3.

Brussels then returned to Hensall
on Sunday afternoon to be
defeated 8 - 4. Goal scorers were
not reported.
The Atom "A" team were
trying to keep busy and played an
exhibition game here on
Wednesday night against a team
from Kitchener. The home team
came up with a 9 - 0 victory. Todd
Wheeler led the team with 6
goals, Kevin Deitner 1, Doug
McArter 1, Brian Wheeler 1.
Assists went to Kevin Wheeler,
Steve Knight, Stewart Cardiff,
Doug McArter, Peter Bennett,

This team will also be
participating in our local Optimist
tournament beginning this Satur-
day. They play at 2:45 Saturday
afternoon against a team from
Kingsville, in the Windsor area.
Win or lose they will also play on
Sunday afternoon.
The Optimists have organized
this tournament to begin this
weekend and then Friday,
Saturday and Sunday of the next
week during the annual winter
break. They are expecting
approximately 1100 hockey
players to partiCipate over the five
day period as they are guaranteed
two games in the tournament. We
are hoping that those involved in
Minor Hockey will be able to
assist the Optimists by opening
their homes for billets for these
ockey players and making them
welcome in our village for this
tournament's second year.

Wingham will host more than
800 players , coaches, managers
and other officials over two
weekends beginning March 14th
as the 11th Annual Wingham
Midget Hockey Tournament gets
underway with 34 top Ontario and
U.S. teams entered in Categories
`AAA', 'A', '13, and `C,.
`B' entries are from Meaford,
Walkerton, Kincardine,
Arnherstburg, Exeter, St. Marys,
' Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Strath-
roy. The 'C' teams this year are
from Dresden, Clinton, Lucan,
Belle River, Belmont, Howick,
Harriston and the host Wingham
entry.
Wingham's normal population
of just near 3,000 swells by
another 2,000 as the whole town
gets involved in the tourney, one
of the best Midget hockey compe-
titions in the province. While a
Tournament Committee is active
almost year round, several ser-
vice and social groups plus local
businesses and residents become
heavily involved in the total
effort.
Official opening ceremonies
will be held Friday evening at the
Wingham Arena with dignitaries
expected to include M.P.P.'s
Murray Gaunt and Eddie Sar-
goant, M.P,'s Crawford Douglas
and. Robert McKinley, O.P.P.
