Mrs. Nelson Reid called the meeting to order at 8:30 p.m . with the Call to Worship. Hymn "Master let me walk with Thee " was sung. Mrs. Jack McEwing read the scripture lesson from John 10: 1-11 followed by the meditation entitled, "We are all weak helpess sheep". The 23rd Psalm was read in unison. Mrs. McEwing read a very interesting story written in 1951 by a Mr, Wil§on who had been in the Holy Land and had returned to teach a boys class in Sunday School on the 23rd Psalm, saying that God is like a Shepherd, and she closed with a poem, "23rd Psalm for busy people". The hymn, "Saviour Like a Shepherd lead us" was sung followed with prayer b y Mrs. Reid. The collectiori was received by Mrs. Mac Sholdice and dedicated by Mrs. Ried, closing the devotions. Mrs. Gerald Watson gave the topic on "Put my worries to work" Thanking God for our worries. If we do worry let it be for some good reason. She read program. The latter program has been allotted $2,000 in the 1975 budget and enables the MVCA to offer a 50 per cent grant to private landowners not to exceed $500 for private erosion projects. Under the proposed and ap- proved program the MVCA will review both the plan and the finished project prior to award- ing the grant, Mr. Graul explained in his chairman's address that the most important project was what he called "Project Method" and ex- plained: "If you want a project, prepare to sell it to your own council . . . get, your municipality to accept it . . , then come to us as an advisory board or as an execu- tive ... this is how projects get off the board" He said the MVCA would do their utmost to work with the member municipalities an item on a "Prayer for the new Year", stressing that the best use of the past is to get a future out of it. Mrs.Thamer presided for the business and thanked those that had taken part. The minutes were approved as read by the secret ary, Mrs. Howard Hackwell. The roll call was taken and sides chosen for the Copper Contest with this year's leaders being Mrs Carol Collins and Mrs. Murray Smith. Mrs. Harold Bolger and Mrs. W.C.Hackwell offered to take part in The World Day of Prayer at the church on Friday, March 7th at 2 p.m. It is open to all on any approVed projects. Leonard Johnson of the Ministry of Natural Resources ,:tharac- terized the authority's job more succinctly: "It's a case of beat drum, build dam, beat drum." Members at the MVCA annual meeting also elected the execu- tive for 1975. Jack Groul was acclaimed for his fourth term as MVCA chairman, and Lorne Murray was acclaimed vice- chairman. The. advisory board membership for 1975 was ap- proved as follows: Water Management—chairman Jack Alexander, vice-chairman Allan Campbell, provincial appointee Everett McIllwain, William Man- ning, Roy Williamson, David Gower, Edwin Illman and Eldon Vines; Reforestation, Land Use and Wildlife—chairman Harold Errington, vice-chairman Arden denominations and the group is. urged to bring their neighbors,, The executive of the U.C.W. will Meet at 1 p.m, The Huron-Perth Presbyterial! annual meeting was. announced for February 26th at Trinity United Church, Listowel, with a delegate to attend from each unit. A program resource workshop is to be held in Seaforth. The Easter 'Thank-offering of the U.,C.W. is planned for April 6, in the church at 8 P.M. with local churches to be invited. The men's choir from Belgrave will be special guests with Rev. Roberts as speaker. It was decided to h ave. a Barker, Norman Alexander, Grant McLellan, R. George Bridge, William Miller and Ross Taylor; Public Relations—chairman Vince Judge, provincial repre- sentative George McCutcheon, ex-officio member Dave Curzon, Harold Hyndman, William Dale, Ross Wilkie, Earl C. Krauter and John Coghlin. Bakeless Bake Sale again this year, with the secretary to have the envelopes ready for the next Meeting, and to be brought back to the unit meeting in March at the home. of Mrs, Howard Hackwell, Mrs.Thamer closed the meeting with. prayer. Grace was sung and lunch was served by Mrs. Ralph Traviss, Mrs. Russell Matks, Mrs, Jack M cEweing and the hostess. Church Happenings Sunday morning at Duff's United Church, Walton the infants baptized were: Gregory .George Clark, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Clark; Michael Charles Craig, son of Mr. and Mrs. Graeme Craig; Brett Timothy Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Lee; Jennifer Erin McDonald. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert McDonald. Mrs. Pam Clark and Mrs. Judy Lee joined the church by .affirmation of faith. Rev. Docken gave as his sermon; "Baptism as the giving of Life" Institute Notes At the Institute meeting on Wednesday evening it was announced that Mrs. H. Hudic and Mrs. E. Liphard had taken the project "Baked in a Pie at the Senior training school recently. Anyone in the community wishing this course are to get in touch with either one of these ladies or the W.I. President, Mrs Allan McCall. The hostesses- for the euchre this Friday evening are Mrs. Jim Axtmann, Mrs. Herb Traviss; Mrs. Keith Rock and Mrs. Dave Watson. Personals Miss Sherril Craig of London spent the weekend at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Craig. Guests on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Clark and family were: Mr. and Mrs. John McGillvary and Rodger of Dorchester and Mr. and Mrs. Doug Rath and Daryl of London, who attended the baptismal of Gregbry George Clark., at Duff's Church. Miss Amy Love of Toronto is visiting with her sister, Mrs. Walter Broadfoot. Mr. and Mrs, Watson Webster and Mr. Stewart Middleton of Clinton were supper guests with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Huether and boys on Thursday evening. Mrs. W.J.Leeming spent the past week in St. Catharines and returned home on Saturday with Mt% and Mrs. David Brady, Mary and baby daughter will reniain for a week's visit at the Leeming home with her patents, The member municipalities of the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority approved a $397,950 budget for 1975 at the Friday annual meeting in Brussels. The adopted budget will require total levies of .$78,300 from the 29 member municipalities which constitute $10,900 in special levies and a per capita levy of $1.761/2 for the 44,339 population within the 1,000-square-mile authority. Secretary-treasurer Mrs. Marlene Shiell said this is a 15 per cent increase over the 1974 figures. The levy increase is neces- sitated by the deficit of $7,002 constituting the net loss for 1974 and a decrease in population , figures from 1974. In 1974, Goder- t ich, Listowel and Elma Township .1 . were assessed the three highest 11 percentage figures in levies, with Wingham as fourth largest con- ' tributor.
