Mrs. L. Stonehouse
The first general meeting of
Knox United Church. Women was
held in the basement of the
church February 11th with an
attendance of twenty-two.
The meeting opened with the
worship service conducted by
Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler and Mrs.
Laura Johnston. Mrs. Kenneth
Wheeler led in prayer and Mrs.
Laura Johnston read the scripture
from Genesis 28: 11-22. Mrs.
Wheeler had .the meditation and
dwelt on the years since the
beginning of the ,United Church
and reminded us this year is the
50th Anniversary.
Mrs. Ross Anderson called
upon Rev. John Roberts to
conduct the installation of the
new officers. Past President -
Mrs. James Coultes; President -
Mrs. Ross Anderson; Vice
President - Mrs. Kenneth.
Wheeler; Treasurer —Mrs. Jack

HARRY A. WORKMAN
Harry A. • Workman, of R.R.4,
Brussels, passed away in
Wingham and District Hospital
on Monday, FEbruary 17th after a
short illness. He was 65.
Born in Morris Townshi .p, he
was educated in Seaforth. He was
married in Wingham
Presbyterian Manse on
November 27, 1933 to the former
Isabelle Campbell who survives.
He farmed the home farm and
also did gravel hauling and
snowplowing and was employed
by Radford Construction of
Blyth.
He is survived by his wife;
seven sons, Charles, Ronald,
David and Douglas of Calgaray,
Alta., Bill S and Barry of
Edmonton, Alta.; and Frank of
Grey Township ; one daughter,
Mrs. Bob (Ruth) Ruston of
London. Twenty grandchildren
also survive.
He was predeceased by one
daughter Mrs. Bill (Marjorie(
Chambers of Dorchester and two
sons, Alex and Kenneth.
Also surviving are two sisters,
Mrs Ruth Dunphy of Leamington,
and Mrs. Al(Margaret) Mason of
Sarnia; three brothers, C.L.
(Sam) Workman of Brussels. Ken
Workman of Point Edward and J.
Gordon Workman of Brussels.
Funeral services were held
Thursday, February 20, from St.
John's Anglican Church,
Brussels, of which he was a
member, at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Fred
,CArson officiated.
Temporary entombment took
place in Brussels Cemetery
Chapel, with burial later in
Brussels Cemetery.
The M.L.Watts Funeral Home
ofBrussels was in char .ge of
funeral arrangements.
Pallbearers were: Brian
Workman, John Pennington,
Alvin Jones, Bill Chambers,
Hugh Campbell and Rick
Gladwish.
Flower bearers were Clarence
White and Th omas Garniss.

Norman Stonehouse of 3
Southgate Street, London, died in
Victoria Hospital, Sunday ;
February 16 in his 78th year.
He was born in Belgrave, the
son of the late Robert and Agnes
Jamieson Stonehouse of
Belgrave. He was educated at
Belgrave Public School,
Winghani High School, Stratford
Normal and Spatton's, Business
College, Witighanio He was in
partnership and taught at the

The treasurer's report was given.
1919. Mr.Stonehouse was a
public accountant.
In 1928 , in Stratford, he
was married to Viola Blackwell of
Bervie who survives. Two
daughters Mrs. Robert (Shirley)
Smart of Waskada, Manitoba .and
Mrs. Lawrence (Sonya) Ellis of
West Hill, three sisters, Mrs.
Harry (Carrie) McGuire,
Belgrave, Mrs. Russel (Agnes)
Walker, Goderich and Mrs.
Robert (Ellen) Coultes, Belgrave
and one brother Lewis of
Belgrave also survive.
He was predeceased by a
brother, the late Dr. Gordon
Stonehouse, Arizona and Stewart
who died in infancy.
The late Mr.Stonehouse served
in the Royal Canadian Air Force
in Canada from 1916-18.
He had served as secretary of
the Official Board of Calvary
United Church, London since
1947. Prior to that he served as a
member on the Board of Stewards
and later was appointed elder.
After being unable to carry on in
this capacity the title of Honoury
elder was bestowed upon him.
He, was a long standing
member of the Highland Golf
Club and the Canadian Progress
Club of London.
Funeral services were held
Feb. 18 from the A. Millard
George Funeral Home in London
with Rev. D., Graham Tipple,
D.D. officiating. Pallbearers were
William and Glenn Coultes,
R.R.5, Brussels, Jack Walker,
Wingham, Eldon and Robert
Nesbitt, Bramalea, William
Byers, Stratford and John A.
MacDonald; London.
Temporary entombment
followed in Woodland
Mausoleum with spring burial in
Brandon Cemetery, Belgrave.
Mrs. Harold Vincent presented
the budget for the year 1975.
It was decided to purchase a
floor covering for the beginners
Sunday School room, A bale` of
good used clothing will be sent to '
the London Mission Service in
May or June.
February 26 is the Huron-Perth
Annual Presbyterial to be held in
Trinity United Church in
Listowel, March 7th the World
Day of Prayer will be held in the
Presbyterian Church.
The offering was received and
dedicated by Mrs.Ross Anderson.
Mr. and Mrs. William Coultes
favoured with two duets.
Mrs. Cliff Logan had charge of
the program and enlightened us
on the background of the
churches leading up to this year
the 50th anniversary. Mrs. Logan
then showed slides on this
subject.
Mrs. Ross Anderson then
showed slides on local weddings,
wedding anniversaries
outstanding birthdays and social
events.
The meeting closed with Mrs.
Anderson pronouncing the
benedic.
W. I. Meets
The regular meeting of the
Belgrave Women's Institute was
held in the Community Centre
February 18, at 2 p.m. with an
attendance of twenty-two.
The president, Mrs. Stan
Hopper opened the meeting in
the usual manner. Mrs. George
Procter presided ,,at the piano.
The secretary, Mrs.Ross
Higgins read the minutes of the
previous meeting and gave the
treasurer's report: Correspon-
dence was read from Mrs. Austin
Zoeller, editor of Home and
Country, Mrs. Herbert Maluske,
president of F.W.I.O. and Mrs.
Richard Buchanan, secretary, of
Huron West.
The fee will be sent for a
member to attend Officers
Conference in Waterloo, April 29,
30 and May 1st. •
Mrs: James Hunter reported on
the training school "Baked in a
Pie". The course will be held
Tuesday mornings at 9:30 a.m.
March 4, 11th and 18th in the
Belgrave W.I. Hall. All ladies in
the community are welcome.
The Institute will canvass for
the Cancer Society in April.
The nominating Committee for
the new slate of officers will be
the Branch Directors ,
Mrs. Clarence Hanna, Mrs.
Lorne Jamiesori and Mrs.Dan
Hallahan.
Convener of the Cultural
Activities meeting Mrs. Garner
Nicholson had for the roll call
"Name an interesting book you
have read".
The motto "Culture begins in
the home", was prepared by Mrs.
Earl Anderson and read by Mrs:
Leslie Bolt.
Colourful. slides' of England,
Wales and local landmarks were
presented by Garner Nicholson
and proved most interesting to
the audience. Mrs. Nicholson
assisted her husband with a
commentary.
Dianne Scott entertained with
vocal solos accompanying herself
on, her guitar. Mrs. Leslie Bolt
gave a reading.
Collection and pennies for
friendship were received.
The Institute Grace and the
Queen were sung.
Lunch was served by Mrs
Goerge Procter, Mrs. Herson
Irwin and Mrs. Robert Higgins.
