The Brussels Public School
Public Speaking Contest was held
on Thursday, February 6th in the
school auditorium. The judges
were Mrs. Elaine Hopper from
the F.E. Madill Secondary School
and Don Kenwell, Area Superin-
Blyth

re-opens
Blyth will be one of only two
stops in Western Ontario for the
Dave Broadfoot comedy revue,
Take A Beaver To Lunch. The
show is scheduled for Blyth on
February 27, at 8:30 p.m. in
Memorial Hall.
The show will play 28
performances throughout
Ontario, most in larger centers
such as Toronto, Hamilton,
Kingston and Sudbury. The only
other local appearance will be in
Listowel on March 1. Blyth is the
only centre of its size to host the
highly acclaimed show. Tickets
will go on sale next week at the
Standard. Admission $3. per
person.

Grade 5 - Jacquie Robertson -
Farm Life; Leslie Black - Trout
Fishing; Janice Somers - Snow-

Somers.
Grade 6 - Karen Alexander -
Turtles; Jill McCutcheon -
Mexico; Paul Nichol - Diabetes.
Winner - Paul Nichol.
Grade 7 - Sherry Robertson -
Alexander Graham Bell; Garry
McWhirter - Duckbilled Platypus;
Barbara Johnston - Doc Cruick-
shank (CKNX) Winner - Barbara
Johnston.
Grade 8 - Dianne Stephenson -
Drugs; Miriam Lichty - Salt;
Arlene Kufske - Inflation.
Winner - Dianne Stephenson.
The overall winner for Grades 5
and 6 was Paul Nichol and the
overall winner for Grades 7 and 8
was Barbara Johnston. These
two young speakers will represent
our school in a competition with
Grey Central School to determine
'Who. represents our area at
Wingham.
The competition was sponsored
by the Brussels Legion. The
students and staff would like to
thank Herb • Stretton and the
Brussels Legion for their interest
in sponsoring our activities.

Wingham and Elsie. Smith of
R.R.#2, Wingham were involved
in a collision on Victoria Street,
West of Helena Street in;
Turnberry Township. There were
no injuries and damages were
estimated at $80.00.
On Saturday, February 1, Olive
A. Sproul of Ethel and Wayne D.
Bowman of R. R.#3, Listowel were
involved in a collision on
Concession 7 - 8 at Sideroad
15-16, Grey Township. Injured as
a result of the collision was
Clifford Sproul, a passenger in
the Sproul vehicle. Damages were
estimated at $2,000.00.
