Horticultural group
spends over $500
beautifying Brussels
Many residents of Grey
Township seem to be unaware
that they have their own active
Recreational Committee who are
devoting a great deal of thought
and effort into an attempt to
organize interesting recreational
activities for their people.
Grey Township Recreational
Committee was formed in May of
last year. It has as members
representatives from each area of
the township and includes two
council members. Grey Council
1 contributes money to aid in their
efforts to bring recreational
Recent investigations carried
out by OPP of Wingliam -
Detachment include:
Four investigations with four
persons charged under the LCA.
Ten charges laid and fifteen
warnings issued under the HTA.
Twenty-five other
investigations with one person
charged under the Criminal Code.
• 4 On Monday, January 20,
' William Vannes of R.R.#1, Ethel
and John Raynard of R.R.#2,
Listowel were involved in a
collision on Concession 6 7 at
Sideroad 20..21 0 Grey Township.
Both drivers were injured as well
as a passenger in the Raynard,
vehicle, Barbara ,G. Marshall of
R,R.#2, Listowel, and damages to
both vehicles were estithated at
$2500.00.
On Wednesday, January 22,
Robert M. Hopper of VVinghani
and William H. Dennis of R.11.#/#
Wing am Were involve in a
Collision On Albert Street at
Helena Street, Ttirnberry
Township. No one was injured,
and damages were estimated at
$600.06.
Glenn H. Walker of R.k.#3,,
activities to the people of the
township, but the Recreational
Committee is a separate body,
apart from council.
At present they sponsor a
Euchre Party once a month in
Grey Central School until April.
They have recently sent out
questionnaires, with an
accompanying letter, to every
family in the township, which
they hope will be filled out and
the form returned to the party
directed.
The questionnaire contains a
list of many activities in sports,

result of being thrown off the
snow vehicle he was driving on
Sideroad , 36-37, north of
Concession 9 - 10, East
Wawanosh Township. There were
no damages to his vehicle.
On Thursday, January 23,
Ralph. H. Darlow of R.R.#2,
Bluevale and Marjorie E. Culbert
of Brussels were involved in a
collision on County Road #16 at
Holliday Street in Brussels. No
one was injured and damages
were estimated at $400.00.
James Oldridge of R.R.#2;
Blyth and Barbara D. Bar ber of
Brussels Were involved in a
Collision on County Road #12,
south of County Road 16 in
Brussels, There were no injuries,
and damages were estimated at
$600.00.
Obi Fridaydarinary, 24; Williani
J. Wagner of Auburn and Ralph
Wind of R.R.1, Kingsville Were
involved in a collision on Highway
#4, north of the junction of Huron
Road 25, There were no injuries,
and damages to the Wind behicle
were estimated at $300.00.

social and cultural, music and
crafts, and others. -

earnest attempt to find out what
recreational activities would be
most interesting and desired by
the people of Grey Township.
The rec committee urges the
people of Grey to fill out and
return the forms, so that the
committee will have the
information they need to provide
the recreational activities in
which citizens would like to
participate.

was involved in a single car
accident on County goad #12,
north of County Road #7, Howick
Township when the car he was
driving went into the east ditch
and rolled over onto its roof.
There were no injuries, and
damages were estimated at
$750.00.
On Friday, January 24, James
A. Strong was involved, in a single
car accident on County Road 20,
east of Sideroad 33 34, East
Wawanosh Township when the

The January meeting of the
Brussels. Horticultural Society
was held in the Public Library
Monday, January 20th at 2 P.M.
The President, Mrs. Wm,
Hewitt presided and opened the
meeting with 0 Canada and
welcomed the members and
guests. -The November minutes
were read.
According to the Annual.
Treasurer's report the group
spent nearly $500.00 on town
beautification. Total expenditures
were $1,097.35.
Mr.A. Knight gave the news
letter and Mrs. Walter Kerr gave
a recording of Bless This House
and an instrumental. Mrs. John
Kelly gave the auditor's report.
The nominating report was
given by Mrs. Doug. Hemingway.
She moved acceptance and Mrs.
John Kelly seconded it.
The 1975 officers are: President

The Brussels Stockyards'
Curling Bonspiel took place on
Monday at the Brussels Arena
with 16 teams competing.
A sumptuous roast beef dinner
was served at noon by the Ladies'
Curling Club.
The winner of the Brussels
Stockyards trophy was the team
skipped by Don McDonald with
Ken McDonald as vice, Herb
Traviss second, and Doug Kirkby
lead. Their score was 3 wins plus
21, over plus 6.
Second prize in the 9 o'clock
draw went to Glen Coultes and
his team with Murray Shiell as
vice, Jack Shiell second, and
Mason Robinson lead. Third prize
went to Gerald Smith's team
which included Ross Cunningham
vice, Fred Uhler second, and
Brad Spieran lead. The
Congr atulations to the
Brussels Atom Hockey Team who
continue their winning play. They
came home from the
Southampton Optimist Atom
Hockey Tournament with the
trophy by defeating the South-
ampton team who had never had
a loss this year.

A number of Our village
residents have expressed a great
deal of concern, and are
considerably upset over the
Brussels Council decision to
approve a $15 allowance per
member per meeting. Connell did
not increase the $400 annual
Salary but apparently many
taxpayers feel that, with the $15
per meeting, they were overly
generous to themselves on a
percentage basis. Last year the
eoinicil Met in a redact 23 -
sessions; which was unusual.
With even 20 meetings the
increase would Mean only
approximately "I/3 Of a mill.

was served by Mrs.Wm. Miller,
Mrs. B.Hemingway, Mrs. Walter
Kerr and Mrs. H. Tunney.
The Brussels , Society are
anxious to secure new members. .
They try to have interesting
meetings both in speakers and
demonstrations. For anyone
interested, the fee is only .50c a
year. •

Stockyards at the Harriston
Bonspiel on March 4th.

The changeable weather we
have been having seems to have
an ill effect on health. A great
many people are suffering with
flu, high fever, colds that hang
on, coughs and throait infections.

clear up some of these problems.

Anglican Church will again serve,
On Shrove Tuesday, February
11th, those delicious pancakeS at
their popular Pancake Supper.
