long-term guarantees to keep the
system rolling. It's not a, matter' of
setting farm interests up against
consumer interests. The
consumer and the farmer want
the same thing - a steady supply
of top-quality food at reasonable
prices.
The real battle, the gut issue, is
Canada's concern for the hungry
and the poor in other nations in
the world. How much of our
standard of living are we willing
to sacrifice in order to help our
less fortunate brothers in other
countries? she asked.
This government intends to
provide incentives to farmers and
fishermen, including stabilization
of incomes and markets, she said.
The second thrust
Mrs. Campagnolo said is to
seek protection of those least able
to help themselves. Legislation in
this, area includes more aid for
older citizens and war veterans,
including pension increases and
lowering of some age
requirements.
The third is cushioning of some
of the harshness of inflation
experienced by Canadians.
The enormous list of legislation
proposed touches the life of every
Canadian.
Referring to lack of Liberal
representation in the riding Mrs.
Campagnolo said it could be done
if Liberals worked together and
were organized properly.
"We went 17 years without a
Liberal member in our riding
The afternoon unit met at the
home of Mrs. Jean Taylor with 14
members and 30 visitations
recorded. The Devotional
program was prepared by Miss
Mae Skelton with "Peace" as the
theme, She opened the meeting
by reading a poem, "Lord s make
me an instrument of Thy Peace".
Members joined in singing "0
God, Our help in ages past". The
Scripture, Micah 4:1-4 was read
by Mrs. V. Hupfer. A reading
"Armistice Day" was presented
by Miss Skelton, Mrs. J,DeVries
told the story of the origin of the
Liberals from across the riding
of Huron Middlesex were in
Zurich Wednesday for the annual
dinner meeting of the riding
association and to hear a British
Columbia M.P. tell of progress
being made by the Trudeau
Government in Ottawa.
Mrs. Iona Campagnolo,
(L-Skeena), parliamentary
assistant to Indian and Northern
Affairs Minister Judd Buchanan,
spoke on behalf of Mr.Buchanan.
"Make no mistake" she said
"Prime Minister Trudeau is in
command and the cabinet and
troops are working to
acknowledge the overwhelming
trust placed in this party last July
8th."
Mrs. Campagnolo said the
three main thrusts enunciated in
the Speech from the Throne are
beamed at combatting inflation.
First, with steps to increase the
supply of goods and services so
that shortages don't shoot prices
up.
Quoting the Agriculture
Minister Gene Whelan, she said
"The federal government has
taken action to stimulate farm
production. The capital gains tax
on farms passed from father to
son was wiped off the books.
Other tax changes are
encouraging farmers to expand
their livestock herds and to hang
on to their increased income and
invest it to improve their farms.
The Farm Credit Corporation has
been expanding the money
supply for farmers, and especially
for young farmers.
Mr ,. Whelan has legislation
ready for Parliament so that
better incentives can be offered to
young farmers. The federal
government has new policies for
agricultural stabilization, for the
dairy industry, for the feed grains
industry, for cash advance
payments and for crop storage
and handling. All of these policies
take into account the fact that we
are entering into a new era in
agriculture today, she said.
There is absolutely no reason in
the world why Canada cannot
contintte, to enjoy a continuous
supply of top-quality, nutritious
food, and at reasonable prices.
But the key people in the system
our farmers - must be given the
proper incentives and the proper

(Skeena)", she said, "and then
we won it with a woman. Nothing
is impossible." Mrs. Campagnolo
