Cenotaph wreaths laid
as Brussels remembers
People of Brussels and
community gathered at the Royal
Canadian Legion Cenotaph at the
annual, November 11th Remem-
brance Day services to pay tribute
to the memory of those who gave
their lives in war in the hope that
we might live in peace.
Those who had lost relatives
and friends recalled in silence
many memories of their loved
ones. As the service proceeded,
wreathes placed, the Last Post

P.U.C. Commissioner Cal
Krauter in speaking said hydro
rates had to be increased for two
reasons. Ontario Hydro rates to
municipalities were up and cost of
labour and materials had also
increased. He said that the
system here is in good shape.
Water rates are also up. The
discount was discontinued
because—of considerable cost in
servicing lots with water mains.
He thought owners of these lots
should pay an improvement tax.
Reeve C. Thomas of Grey
Township spoke briefly of Grey
Township application with
Brussels in some areas• such as
recreation.
H. Stretton asked questions on
the Secondary Plan, for Brussels
and a lengthy discussion
followed.
I. McDonald inquired about the
extent of the feasibility of the
plan, which had been remarked
on earlier. He was told by Reeve
McCutcheon, who answered the
various questions from the floor,
that the plan will be reviewed
once a year and that adjustments
can be made. A local planning
board (not the council) will be set
up to consider such adjustments.
Reeve McCutcheon said the
latest word received,. concerning
the Senior Citizen's Units was

M.P.P. and Hon. Leo Bernier,
Minister of Natural Resources,
have announced the approval of a
provincial grant of $18,500.00 to
the Maitland Valley Conservation
Authority for a proposed Morris
Conservation Area.
The Authority is proposing to
acquire sonic 210 acres of land in
Morris Township for the
establishment of this
Conservation Area.The property
is located about 2 miles
north-west of Brussels. The land
Nov. 11th to Nov. 17th has been
proclaimed Youth Appreciation
Week by Reeve McCutcheon. The
Optimist Club of Brussels in
conjuncion with this will sponsor
free skating time at the Brussels
Arena on Saturday, Nov. 16th
plus refreshments tickets. See ad
elsewhere in this issue of the Post
is slightly rolling with 80 acres in
heavy bush, 60 acres of bush and
scrub, and 35 acres clear with old
farm buildings. It is the Source
area for two intermittent streams
which drain into the Little
Maitland River. -
The Area will be managed for
the purposes of source area
protection, forestry, wildlife
management and conservation
education.
All member municipalities will
bear the Authority's share of the
cost.

busy in Brussels. they are also
cutting down dead trees. The
machine used is a very ,agile
instrument almost like a human
arm. It reaches high into the
highest branches and bends this
way and that with great mobility.
