A Trip to the Apple Orchard of
Mr. Lewis Cardiff
by Rose. Marks'
On Monday October 21st the
Grade 2 class and Mrs. Mary
Huether visited Mr. Lewis
Cardiff's apple orchard. It was a
beautiful, sunny day and every-
one enjoyed the walk up and
back.
People were picking the spies
into baskets. The baskets were
dumped into boxes that held 20.
bushels, A tractor ,.with a fork
moved, the boxes up to the shed,
In the shed they were sorted and
put into baskets or boxes and,
taken to the cool room with a 32
degree temperature. Here they
stay until they are sold. Many are
sold to stores in nearby towns.
You may buy them in bags,
baskets and bushel baskets at the
orchard store too.
He also showed us some newly
planted trees and some very old
trees (75 years old) with brittle
limbs. After we had had our tour,.
he treated us all to apple cider.
We could also eat all the apples
we wanted while on our tour of
the orchard.
,We would all like to say a big
thank-you to Mr. Cardiff. We
really learned a lot..
