The Provincial Government is establishing a 15,year programme to reduce urban reliance of land-fill sites, and the first phase of, the 500 .million dollar pro- gramme will be to build a number of garbage recycling and processing plants throughout the Province. As the first stage -the Province is going to provide 17 million dollars to construct six such plants in Kingston, Sudbury, Peel-Halton, L6ndon, Metro Toronto, and the Peel and Metro Toronto areas. The reclamation material mainly metal and paper will be resold to offset operating costs, the rest will be shredded and compacted before delivery to a land-fill site. The process is designed 'to reduce the garbage by 40 per cent in volume.
