U.C.W.Meets
The McKillop U.C.W. met at
the home of Mrs. S. McCall with
14 members present.
Mrs. G. McNichol was in
charge of devotions opening with
a reading "Thanksgiving to God"
followed by prayer. Hymn 205
was sung, Mrs. N. McGavin as
pianist. Mrs. D. Watson 'read the
scripture from .Luke 18, 9-14
followed by two readings on
"Thanksgiving". • Mr s.D.
Watson and Mrs. G. McNichol
present ed a skit "We All Need a
Lift". Offering was taken by Mrs.
M. Hackwell and dedicated by
Mrs. G. McNichol. Mrs.Don
Dennis gave the topic on
"Thanksgiving" and read two
readings,
Mrs. M. Dennis presided for
business thanking Mrs. McCall
for her home arid everyone for
taking part. Minutes were read by
Mit. G. McNichol followed by roll
call. Mrs. M. Hackwell gave the
treasurer's report. Mrs. M.
Dennis dosed the meeting with a
poem on "Thanksgiving".
Lunch was served by Mrs. C.

Mrs. Emerson Mitchell held
Open House for her Cameo
Products in the Walton
Community Hall on Saturday
afternoon. Many instructors were
on hand to display their work.
Debbie Flynn pleased the
audience with her step dancing

The door prizes, a cushion top
was won by Anne Dowker, Exeter
and a date book was won by Elsie

community hall on Friday
evening.

loss $40,000
Loss was set at $40,000 after a
barn owned by James Alexander
was destroyed by fire early Friday
morning.
Mr. Alexander awoke :about 3
a.m. and heard "the-roar of the
flames" and saw the glow in the
sky. The barn, located on the 10th
concession of McKillop Township
about a mile and a quarter north
of Winthrop, was completely
engulfed in flames.
Lost were 50 sows and 100
younger pigs; 30 tons of mixed
grain, 700 bales of hay and about
700 bales of straw, 1973 Pick 7 up
truck parked beside the barn, a
new grinding mill fo"r grain,
$2,500 worth of steel stored in the
barn in Preparation for building a
new feeder pig addition to the
barn.
The Seaforth Firemen were
unable to do anything to save the
barn but saved the implement
shed and a small feeder pig barn
housing 19 ten-week old pigs. The
house was in no danger because
of the northeast wind. ' •
Mr. Alexander said the barn,
which was partially insured, had
been renovated last year. He said
he will rebuild in the spring.
Mrs. Lillian Beer and children
also visited at the Mitchell home,
prior to visiting her husband John
Beer who is a patient in West-
minster Hospital, London.
