`A Trip to Grand. Bend
by Doug Shaw - Grade II
The grades one and two of
Brussels Public School went for a
trip to Grand Bend. Mr. Pearson
our bus driver took us to the zoo
and museum. At the zoo, we saw
monkeys, a bob cat, a peacock, a
bear, a wild boar, lion, porcupine,
red fox, donkey, turtle, leopard,
boa constrictor snake, fawn,
Canada geese and many other
things. The zoo keeper put the
snake around his neck and let us
pet it. And then. We went to eat.
After we ate we went to the
museum., At the museum we saw
a fire truck, typewriter,
television, musical 'instruments,
clocks and' dishes from the olden
days.
At 2 p.m. we left for home. On
our return trip home, we saw the
Lake Huron Water Supply. We
arrived back at school. Mrs.
Huether read two stories until
time to go home, after a very
exciting trip,to Grand Bend.
Thanks to the Grade 1 and 2
teachers and Mr. Pearson for
taking us on our trip. '
Our own homegrown heroes
have done it again., Ritchie's
Rockets won the Wraith Storey
Hardware trophy for winning the
`13' championship at the Lucan
Irish Nine fastball tournament. In
the first game, Brussels lost to
Thamesford 7-3. But the team
then won three in a row, beating
Walton 5-3, St. Marys 4-3, and in
the final, Sylvan 7-3. Neil Gowing
was the winning pitcher with 11
strikeouts.
In two weeks, the Rockets
travel to Thamesford for their
fourth annual Kiwanis Fastball
Tournament.

Huron Bruce MPP Murray
Gaunt, who campaigned against
the route, commented that the
reduction of corridor widths was a
helpful concession, byt the ideal
solution would have been a
re-routing of the power lines.
Late last week Mr. Newman
said that he would meet with
opponents of the Hydro route and
give them one more chance to
state their objections. •
In a telegram to John Loney,
Conservative candidate for' the
July 8 federal election in Bruce
riding, Mr. Newman promised
Thursday 'to refuse to sign the

Mr. Whyte said that he had not
