The Brussels Post, 1974-05-29, Page 5BETTER VIEWING —The Huron District of the Oddfellows and Rebekah Lodges presented an eye testing machine to the Huron County Health Unit last week in Holmesville. The machine, worth $500 was presented to Bob Gibson, left, president of the Health Board, by deputy president Mary Grigg and Oddfellows committee chairman, Murray Taylor. Funds for the machine were raised by clubs in Clinton, Goderich, Wingham, Exeter, Hensall, Brussels, Brucefield and Seaforth. In a brief speech before the allots were made out, Mr. ynclen told the audience that in his riding, "The home front, the armers" are his prime concern. e praised Agricultural Minister ugene Whelan for his past egislation; that "he gave the armers a break." He also condemned the pposition for their support of wage and price controls, citing he United States and England as xamples of failures when they ttempted to put freezes on. He els that if Liberals worked ogether "we can't help but put is Tories out of business." Mr. Lyndon, 54, was raised in innipeg. He served with the CAP from 1941 - 46 then moved o Montreal. Upon his return, he was tationed at the Clinton base here he remained until his scharge in 1970. He then took iejob as manager at the theatre. the only other nominee was a Clinton minister, Rev. He said that the Conservative party are recruiting big businessmen to run for them. Mr. McGuigan noted that wage and price controls benefit only . one group of people, big business. As for inflation, he said the Liberal solution is to assure producers, such as farmers, that they will get a fair return and thus encourage production. Shortages are the problem that cause inflation. "There's no better way to judge a man then by what he's done." Mr. McGuigan said. He pointed out that Stanfield Can't even make up his own mind and asked "so how can he decide for the country?" Huron MPP Jack Riddell and Huron-Bruce MPP Murray. Gaunt spoke briefly as did Huron Warden Wm. Elston who brought greetings. from the county. Mr. Riddell also said that the people don't even want an election.
