But if the humidity and clouds all condesed into rain, about 3,000 cubic miles of water would fall — still only enough to cover the earth with no more than about an inch of rainwater, Corner Eating Habits The on-the-go lives that most families lead don't lend themselves to the traditional, "three square meals a day." And, as children grow. older, it's. even harder to corral the whole family three times each day to serve them. a balanced meal, So, homemakers may do the next best thing: help their children develop proper eating habits so they will eat right when they are away from home. It is best to begin the wise eating habit when children are very young. It's a time when you, still have some control over what children eat. Make sure the snacks and meals you fix for the children, or for the lunches you pack for school, contain a variety of foods from these four groups: milk; meat or meat alternate, such as cheese, fish or peanut butter: fruits and vetables; enriched breads or cereals. 21 metric destination signs will be • erected on Ontario's Highways, signalling the st art of a six-year program to convert the Ministry's operations to the metric system, Honourable John R. Rhodes, Minister of Transpor- tation and Communications, has announced. The green and white signs will show the distance in kilometres to major Ontario communities. The conversion factor is 1.6 km -• 1 mile, therefore, 16 kilometres equals 10 miles -- or breaking - it down -further, eight kilometres equals five miles The signs will be suc h major highways near such centres as Hamilton, North Bay, Ottawa, Toronto, Thunder Bay and on highways near principal border crossing points. All ten Provinces and the Federal Government are working to an agreed plan with a target date of September, 1977 for changing all highway signs in Canada. No changes in posted speed limited • from miles per hour (m.p.h.) to kilometres per hour (km/h), or on other regulatory signs will be made before September, 1977. When speed limit conversions are made, they will likely be changed to round numbers in kilometres per hour, such as 50 km/h in, place of 30 m.p.h., or 100 km/h 'in place. of 60 m.p.h. Metric speedometers are already found on many imported ears and motorcycles, and will soon be a feature on new domestic automobiles. When the changeovertakes place, conversion stickers will be available for older vehicles. The plans of the various Ontario Ministries are being co-ordinated by the Metric Office within the Ministry of industry and Tourism., All 10 Provinces co-operated in development of a national plan for metric. changeover of highway construction and operations and this plan was adopted in October, 1973 at the annual convention of the Roads and Transportation' Association of Canada, Adoption of the metric syslea. will bring Canada in line with the' system of measurement aIregd) in use by all major countries outside of North America, T4 logo "Go Metric" has hero chosen to designate the Ministry implemental program.
