age security pension. Must I
include this pension money as
part of my income on my income
tax return? Also, what about the
guaranteed income supplement?'
A. The old age security pension
must be reported as income on
your income tax return. The
guaranteed income supplement,
however, should be ignored
except when calculating the
income of a dependant. •
Q. I am divorced and receive
alimony payments from my
former husband. DO I have to
report these payments as income
on my tax return, and if so, where:
on the return do I enter the
amount?'
A. Yes, these payments must
be reported as income. Enter the
total received in the year on the
line for "Other Income" on yotir
return.
Q. Can repairs to property be
claimed as an income tax
deduction?
A. Not unless the property is
being used for business or rental
purposes.
Q. I am a salaried employee
and I have to purchase special
• reference books for my work. Can
I claim these as a' deduction for
income tax purposes?'
No. The cost of reference books
is not an allowable deduction
from salary received as an
employee. You may claim an.
employment expense deduction

Ann Fairservice, daughter of
Mrs. Myrtle Fairservice and the
late Robert Fairservice of
Londesboro, and sister of David
Fairservice of Mon'treal, died
Friday, April 12, at the age of 38.
Ann was widely known in
Southwestern Ontario for her arts
and crafts.
At the age of 18 Ann went to
Detroit. Here after a serious
illness, she continued studies in
music and became an
accomplished concert pianist. She
also studied at the Wayne
University of
Michigan, graduating with a
Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree.
Returning to her home in
Londesboro she began teaching
her crafts.
Interested in Interior
Decorating, she worked for some
time with Eaton's Yorkdale in
Toronto and later in Stratford and
Clinton,
Acquiring a fine, old
income, up to $150 a year.

II in receipt of a disability pension
from the Department of Veterans
Affairs and in addition receive
salary and wages from
pensionable employment. On
what income do I have to
contribute?
A. Only on the salary and
wages.
Q. I am a farmer. Must I reduce
my occupancy cost by the amount
of taxes or rent claimed as an
operating expense on my Farm
Statement of Income and
Expenses?
A. A farm owner or a tenant is
not required to reduce the
calculation of his occupancy cost
by any amount he may declare as
expenses incurred in earning
income.
Q. If I am not sure whether an
employee is in insurable
employment, or if ' Canada
Pension Plan contributions are
required, how can I find out?
A. Write to your nearest
District Taxation Office.
Q. Last year my friend.died and
in his will left me several
thousand dollars. Is this money I
inherited taxable as income?
A. No. Money inherited is not
subject to income tax. HOwever, if
there were investments involved,
any investment income received
or credited after you inherited the
money would be taxable as part of
your income.

artist A. J. Casson, one of the few
living artists of The Group of
Seven, at that time.
She was one of the artists who
entered the fitist Art Mart held in
Goderich, 'Two of her paintings
hang in the Rotlinian Gallery in
Stratford. She has exhibited her
work in many cities and towns in
Southwestern Ontario including
Toronto, London, Stratford,'
Goderich and Southampton.
