Mrs. Earl Cudmore, president
took charge of the meeting and
called on Mrs. Doug. Heming-
way who expressed our thanks to
the ladies for a bountiful meal.
Tickets on two door prizes were
drawn by Mrs, Wallace. The
Easter lily was won by herself,
and Mrs. Toni Strachan, the other
- Avon sachet.
The minutes of last year's
`annual' and the yearly financial
statement were given by Miss
Laura Lucas, the secy.-treas. The
East Huron district annual
meeting will be held in Gorrie on
May 14th. Summary day for Sr.
local leaders' training school will
be held in the Presbyterian
Church, Wingharn on April 23rd.
Mrs. Leona Armstrong will attend
the officers' conference in
Kitchener on April 30, Ma y 1
and 2.
The day of our meeting is to
remain on Wednesday by a vote
of 22 to 4 over Thursday. The roll
call was introduc your guest and
name your Sunshine Pal. It was
decided to continue with the
Sunshine pal for another year.
The standing committee con-
veners then presented their
reports of the year's work:
Pension Changes
Health and Welfare Minister
Marc Lalonde introduced in the
House of Commons amendments
to the Canada Pension Plan to
establish equal treatment for
male and female contributors and
beneficiaries.
Under the proposed changes,
the Bill will provide a "survivors'
pension" to widowers on the
same conditions it is now being
paid to widows.
The Bill will also enable
children's benefits to 'be paid, on
the disability or death of female
contributors, on the same basis as
they are now paid with respect to
male contributors.
In addition, the amendments
will abolish the earnings test now-
required for persons aged 65 to 69
— they will be able to draw
Canada Pension Plan benefits
whether or not they continue to
work and receive wages.
Housing Starts Down
Statistics Canada reported that
housing starts in Canada in
February declined to 263,900
from 293,800 in January — a
decrease of 10 per cent.

Everyone enjoyed a humorous
skit, 'Aunt Martha at the Studio' -
Aunt Martha was portrayed by
Mrs. Earl Cudmore and Miss
Nooby - vice president of the
studio's children's program by
Mrs. Leona Connelly.
Mrs. Cudmore introduced the
guest speaker, Mrs. • HarOld
Wallace, East Huron district
president, who spoke on the
Associated Countrywomen of the
World, composed of various
groups of farm women from
Eight hundred Senior Citizens
from all across Canada will travel
to Ottawa this Spring, at greatly
reduced rates, thanks to a special
grant of money made available by
the Secretary of State.
This grant has been awarded, to

Western Canadian farmers
intend to plant more wheat this
year — 26.7 million acres. This is
an increase of eight per cent from
the 24.7 million acres of wheat
planted in 1973.

The Yukon will become
Canada's llth province "when its
population and revenues reach

Northern Affairs Minister Jean
Chretien.
He told the House of Commons
Northern Affairs Committee that
he had no fixed figures. "This is a
decision a government will have

Middle East Trip
Industry, Trade and Commerce
Minister Alastair Gillespie and 18
Canadian businessmen left last
week for four Middle East oil
countries (Saudi Arabia, Iraq,
Kuwait and Iran) to promote
Canadian exports and discuss
possible investment projects.
Exports up 21.1%
Canadian exports in February
reached a record 52.17 billion, up
21.1 per cent from $1.79 billion a
year earlier.

the Society for the Study of the
Heritage of Canada which is a
Canadian non-profit organization.
The Society received i subsidy
last year which enabled them to
arrange a similar 7-day trip to the
Capital for 1000 Senior Citizens.
This year, the grant is smaller
but it will provide a rewarding
experience for 1,000 Senior
Citizens, who will travel in May
and June. The criteria for
selection .is a follows:
-wish to enjoy a bicultural
experience
- are 65 or over
- are in good health
- have not visited Ottawa
during the last three years
- are unable, and have been
unable , over the past five
years, to afford to travel
, outside of their province for
pleasure.
A small registration fee of
$30.00 per person will be
charged. The programme will
include travel, accommodation,
and meals at no extra charge.
The Society would like to make
contact with individuals who feel
that they are eligible. The Society
is already in contact with many
Senior Citizens Clubs who are
helping with the selection of
applicants.

The Invitation To Live Crusade Team visited the Home on
Friday afternoon and held a service in the Auditorium. Rev.
MeWhinitie introduced the Team which included Rev.
Marney Patterson + theme speaker, Mrs. Marshall, soloist,
Mrs. Mills, pianist and devotional leader for the service.

Hogg art were welesanied to the Home and those having
birthdays during the week Were honoured at Monday's
activities. Marie .Plytin, Norman Speir, Jerry and Terry
provided the music with volunteers rom the Christian
Reformed Church assisting with wheel chairs.
The McQuaid Family of Seaforth entertained on Family
Night with step dancing, vocal and instrumental numbers.
