CAUSES BLAKCOUT — Brussels joined most people in the area from Stratford to
Goderich on Sunday afternoon and was without hydro for about 3 hours. A small
tornado struck in Hibbert Township, blowing down five towers in carrying an
Ontario Hydro 230,000 volt transmission line near SC Columban and downing the
line. Power was restored by Sunday night by temporary hook-ups and hydro crews
[Worked Monday and Tuesday to rebuild the fallen towers.

4-H club
The fifth meeting of the
Grooming Gals was held on. April
15th at 7:00 p.m, in the Brussels
Library. After the 4H pledge a roll
call was answered by a method of
caring for clothing.
There has been no date set for
the next meeting. The girls
decided to have white dou-tangs
with black lettering.
Mrs. Louis Cardiff gave a very
helpful demonstratin on the art of
applying makeup and how to•
care for skin with Karen
Hemingway and Sharon Bell
acting as models, Mrs. Cardiff
and also a large number of
interested mothers were thanked
for attending.
The meeting closed with the
4-H motto "Learn , To Do
ByDoirig".
Meat Dollar Spending
Who spend' the most meat
dollars? Those families whose
head is between the ages of 35
44, with the over 55 age group
second. Youngest purchasers,
Whose household head was under
25 years of age, spent only 5
percent of the meat dollar.
Atom A's
second
A tournament of all zone
champions in the Atom division
was held in. Palmerston during
the past weekend. It was to have
been the winning team in each
category which was to have
played for the grand champion-
ship trophy. Chesley and Mount
Forest both dropped out in the
game previous to ours and fifteen
minutes before game time Zurich
phoned to say they would not be
there either.
Palmerston as runners-up
to Zurich were called and after a
slight delay played the Brussels
squad. A very close game of
hockey followed and after three
periods of hockey the score was
tied at 2-2. A ten minute overtime
period followed and the score
remained tied with Brussels
winning with 4-3 shots on goal.
Scoring for Brussels was Ken
Cousins and Terry McCutcheon
unassisted.
After a twenty minute rest the
boys were asked to play hockey
again against Walkerton who had
played earlier in the day against
Goderich. At the end of two
periods Walkerton led 4 - 1. The
local team came back in the third
and came very close to tieing the
score which ended 4 - 3 in
Walkerton's favour. Scoring for
Brussels was Terry McCutcheon
assisted by Ken Higgins and Ron
Godkin from Kevin Deitner and
Ken Higgins.
As it was a double knock out
tournament their third game of
the day was played once more
against Palmerston. The game
ended 6 - 3 for Brussels. Scoring
for Brussels was Terry
McCutcheon, 3 goals, Ken
Cousins, 2 goals .and Kevin
Deitner 1 goal. Assists went to
Ron Godkin, Terry Glanville, Ken
Cousins and Brian Ten Pas.
The , team returned for the
Grand Championship game on
Sunday at 1:30 P.M. against
Walkerton. It was a see-saw
battle as each team scored goal
for goal. At the end of two periods
Walkerton led 4 - 3,
in the third period Walkerton
scored two goals while Brussels
only scored one. The final score
was Walkerton 6, Brussels 4.
Walkerton won the grand
championship trophy with
Brussels being the runners up.
Walkerton plays "B" division
which is three categories above
our own division. The boys are to
be congratulated for playing such
good hockey. Scoring in the last
game tor Brussels was Ken
Cousins, 2 goals unassisted and 1
goal assisted by Kevin Deitner.
Mike Watson, 1 goal unassisted.
The PeeWees were eliminated
from the zone playoffs Monday
night when Teeswater defeated
them 17 - 5. it was an even game
until the third period when
Brussels fell apart. Scoring for
the Brussels team was Doug
Cousin's, 3 goals, Ken Cousins, 1
goal and Terry McCutcheon 1
goal and several assists of which
were not received.
