The local Atom "A" team
defeated Milverton in three
straight games to capture their
own zone championship. The
eliminated Lucknow in the first
series and had a bye as
Milverton-Hensall and
Teeswater-Mildmay played.
Milverton and Teeswater were
winners and then Milverton
defeated Teeswater. After
beating Milverton 5 - 1 in the first
game, they played their second
game on home ice last
Wednesday evening and picked
up a 9 - 1 win. Scoring for
Brussels was Terry McCutcheon 3
goals unassisted, Ken Cousins 2
goals unassisted. Brad. Wright 1
goal from Ken Higgins, Brian
Tenpas from Paul Johnston, Ken
Higgins 1 goal from Ken Cousins
and John Stroop and Paul
Johnston, 1 goal from Ken
Cousins.
In the third and deciding game
they picked u p a 5- 1 win in the
Milverton arena. Although no one
was there from the W.O.A:A. to
present them with their trophy for
capturing the "D" series
championship we hope it will find
its way to Brussels.
Congratulations Boys! Brussels
goal scorers were Brian Tenpas 2
from Ken. Cousins, Ken Cousins 2
goals one unassisted the other
from Terry McCutcheon. Terry
McCutcheon 1 goal from Stuart
Cardiff.
Hockey action came to an end
at the local arena this past
weekend. The house league
championship for the Novice team
was decided two weeks ago but
the Tyke division de'cided to make
it rather exciting and played two
extra games on the weekend. In
the original 2 out of 3 series each
team picked up one win and a tie.
The tie breaker was played on
Saturday morning. At the end of
the game each team had scored 2
goals and the deadlock remained.
A ten minute overtime period was
played and neither team scored a
goal or had a shot on the net. It
was decided to start fresh and
another game was• called for
Sunday at 5:30 P.M. The Ranger
team picked up a 2 - 0 lead early
in the game but allowed the Sabre
team to tie" it up. The Rangers
pulled their goal tender with a
minute and. 45 seconds to go and
scored a goal. They managed to '
hang on for the 3 - 2 win. The
Ranger team consisted of Mike
Smith, Dean Rutledge, Brian
Wheeler, David Cossitt, Darryl
Hastings, Kevin McArter, Darrin
Watts, Robert Cardiff, Troy
Hamilton, Richard Haveman.
The Sabre team was Bradley
Black, Kevin Wheeler, Paul
Machan, Paul Tenpas, David
Hastings, Bruce Boneschansker,
Doug Shaw, Wayne McCutcheon,
Robeit Boneschansker, Jeffery
Knight.
The Novice A team closed their
season on Saturday night with a
fun hour and a half of skating and
hockey against their parents and
brothers and sisters. All appeared
to enjoy themselves and I'm not •
sure what the final score of the
hockey game was.
The PeeWee team have been
sitting by waiting for an opponent
so they can resume their zone
playoffs. The Teeswater team still
playing in the O.M.H.A.
eliminated Milverton last week
and is hosting Brussels for their
first game on Tuesday night in
Teeswater. The second game will
be played Wednesday or
Thursday night in possibly
Wingham or Blyth depending
where they can find ice available.
