AN OLD STONE HOUSE - This large stone house with the elegant fan detail over
the doorway and Georgian like proportions was built by John Govenlock in 1875.
For many years it was owned by Alex Anderson who was a Dodge dealer in
Brussels. Tom Pletch, who bought the house in 1971 is its present owner. He
bought the house from Frank Thompson. This picture continues the Post's sesries
of architecturally interesting Brussels' houses.

Q. Are there any.other rules we
should be aware of, and what
would happen if a person moved,
for instance, near the end, of the
year, and his moving costs were
greater than the income he
earned for the short period,
remaining in the year at his new
place of work?
A. To answer the first part of
your question, no deduction of
moving expenses could be per-
mitted if those expenses were
either paid by 'the wage earner's
employer or the employer re-
:mbursed the employee for his
moving expenses. In addition, no
moving expense deductions will'
be allowed for moves into or out
of Canada, except for certain
students.
In regard to the second part of
your question, moving expenses
paid must be deducted in the year
of the move from income earned
at the new place of work. If, as
you suggest, however, your
moving expenses were greater
than income earned at the new
place of work, the difference may
be carried forward and deducted
from income in the following
year.
Q. My year of marriage was
1973 and both my spouse and
myself paid rents up to the date of
marriage. How should we claim
the Ontario Property Tax. Credit?
A. When two people Marry in
the year, the spouse with the
higher taxable income for the
year must claim the Ontario
Property Tax Credit. In calculat-
ing occupancy cost the claimant
may include all the following:
- rent or property taxes paid for
the period of the marraige,
- his rent or property taxes for the
part of the year prior to marriage
and his or her spouse's rent or
property taxes prior to marraige.
Q. My mother is receiving
full-time care in a nursing home.
Can she claim the costs as
medical expenses?
A. Unless your mother is blind.
or is confined to a bed
wheelchair, the costs for her car
in the nursing home do
qualify for deduction as medic'
expenses.
Q. My employer states that
portion of the medicare premium
that he pays on my behalf must!)
included in my income. Is
correct?
A. Yes. The benefit dent(
from an employer's, contributia
to a public ^Medicare plan is
taxable benefit, and must
reported with your other incor
from employment. The
ployer's contributions to privi
health services plans, such as$
Blue Cross are still exempt. ,
Q. Do I still have to get receipi,
for medical expenses?
A. Yes. You still have to sec
receipts for all claims for =die
expenses. You may list your cla
on the schedule provided
your income tax return and
must submit your receipts.
