in zone playoff action our local
teams were kept quite busy
during the last week. The Peewee
team opened their series against
Lucknow on. Friday evening and
came home with a 7 3 win. On
Sunday afternoon they picked up
their second win and eliminated
Lucknow by a 6 3 score, In
Sunday's game the goal scorers
were Doug Cousins with 3, John
Richmond, Darwin McCutcheon
%and Scott Wheeler with singles.
Assists went to Scott Wheeler, 2,
-iTerry McCutcheon; Bill Smith,
Darwin McCutcheon, Tim Prior
and Kevin Hergott, 1 each.
In Bantam activity, they started
their second series against
Teeswater on Friday evening and
'lost 7 - 3. They were able to even
the series at home on Sunday
{evening with a 5 - 2 -win. This
forced a third game to be played
in Brussels on Wednesday night.
Goals were scored on Sunday by
hris Cossitt with 2, Dave
Stephenson, Danny Whit e and
ave Watts, 1 each. Assists went
o Dave Stephenson 2, Jerry
ichowski, 2, Chris Cossitt 1,-
Danny White 1.
The Midget team also evened
their series. On last Tuesday
night they lost to the Lucknow
team by a 9 - 4 score. On Friday
evening they hosted the Lucknow
squad and pitched up a big 6 -• 3
win. Their' third and deciding
game is to be played on Tuesday
in Lucknow.
The Atom team while waiting
for their next series in playoff
action kept busy by hosting the
Goderich "A" team in an
exhibition game last Wednesday
evening. They came out on the
losing side of a 6 - 2 score with the
Goderich team as well as with the
flu bug which had taken its toll.
Both goals were scored by Ken
Cousins with one assist going to
Brian Tenpas.
In other ac tion the Novice (Ty
kes) team hosted the Goderich
"A" team on Saturday evening
and after three very exciting
periods of hockey came up with a
3 - 2 win. Kevin Wheeler led the
team with two goals unassisted
and Greg Humphries scored the
third assisted by Peter Bennett.
The Novice team travelled to
Monkton on Sunday evening for a
supper hour game and came
home with a 5 - 3 win to add to
their list of victories.
• The holiday week has turned
out to be hockey week for the local
teams who are participating in
different tournaments throughout
the area. The Novice team will be
in Listowel on Wednesday,
Monkton on Thursday and Blyth
on Saturday. As they don't play a
regular schedule throughout the
year these tournaments are their
big challenges Of the season. The
Peewee team will be at "Young
Canada Week" in Goderich on
Tuesday afternoon and with a win
could return to play again on
Thursday and Friday.
The Bantam team participated
in the Bantam Tournament in
Harriston on Monday. Playing at
8:00 A.M. they picked up their
first win over Drayton by a 5 - 4
score. Scoring for Brussels was
Chris Cossitt 2, Dave Stephenson
1, Dave Watts 1 and Jamie Jutzi
1. Their second game at 3:00
P.M. found Them playing a team
from Hillsburg. They were
handed a 2 0 defeat by that team
although it was a good game as
the score indicates, We wish you
good luck in the playoffs boys.
The Al .om "A" team will be
participating in the Atom
Tournament here in our own
arena this Saturday. Their game
will be at 10:15 A.M. We wish
them luck as well as the other
teams taking part in tournaments
throughout the week.
