Child care expenses can be deducted by the father if, during the year, he was single; widowed, divorced or separated by a written agreement,' He may also make the deduction if the mother is incapable of caring for herself or the children or if she is confined for 14 days or more to bed, hospital, wheelchair, mental hospital or prison. The father's deduction is limited to $15 per week for each child up to $60 per week. The same limitations of $500 per child or $2,000 per year for the whole family also apply in this case. Q. When the father and mother both work, can either of them claim the child care expenses? A. No. When both parents work only the mother can claim the child care expenses. Q. Can a mother hire her older child as a baby sitter? A. The rule is that a mother cannot claim the amounts paid to a person who is under age 21, and related to her or her husband by blood, marriage or adoption, or if the person is claimed as a dependant. Two new residents were welcomed to the home, Norman Youngblutt of Auburn and Ross MeNee of Dungannon. There were eight tables of games in play on Wednesday afternoon. Vo lunteers from the Opti Mrs. Club of Vanastra were on hand to help with the wheel chairs and the games. Mrs. John Henderson of Seaforth arranged the program for "Family Night" and also played several piano instrumentals and accompanied her three daughters. Donna and Darlene Henderson thrilled the audience with their step dance numbers and joined their sister Debbie for vocal trios. SusanMcAllister played three numbers on the accordian with piano instrumental by Janet Drager. Mrs. Orville Dale, a former neighbour of the entertainers expressed the appreciation of the residents for the tine entertainment. Q. Are child care expenses deductible for all children regardless of their age or is the age of the child important at all? A. Yes. Expenses are deductible for children who are under age 14 at any time during the year or, if the child is 14 or over, he must have been dependent upon his parents because of physical or mental infirmity. Q. What kind of expenses are deductible? A. Deductible expenses include costs of baby-sitting and day nursery care, and up to $15 per child per week for lodging paid at boarding schools and camps. If child care expenses are to ;be deductible, they must be for care in Canada; furthermore, payments for such items as clothing, transportation, education or Medical care are not considered to be child care expenses. Q. Must I keep receipts for child care expenses? A. Yes. Deductions claimed for child care expenses must be supported by receipts. The name and address of the person to whom you make payments for child care must be provided on all receipts. Except for an organization such as a day nursery, the Social Insurance Number of the recipient must also be included on the receipt. You will not be required to attach these receipts to your return but you must keep them in the event the Department wishes to inspect them.. Q. How much may be deducted for child care expenses and does it matter to whom the payments are made? A. A taxpayer may deduct the amount actually spent on child care provided it does not exceed the least of: - $500 per child, or $2,000 for the family, or - two-thirds of the taxpayer's earned income for the year. There are two` further requirements regarding the person to whom child care payments are Made. A new fridge has been purchased recently for use in the kitchen. The menu prices gave much decision with all prices being changed. Rev. Docken spoke on material for World development which could be worked into a program for the• U.C.W. It was then decided he will speak at each of the unit meetings. It was moved that our allocation to Mission and Service be the same .as last year. The annual meeting of Huron and Perth Presbyterial will be held in the Mitchell United Church, Wednesday, March 6, 1974. The theme, "New Frontiers for Women in the World". The morning address will be given by the Rev. Fred Haist, President of London Conference. In the afternoon session, Audrey McKim, a missionary, will be gnest speaker. A two-day Forum on alcohol for all U.C.W. members of Huron- Perth Presbyterial will be held at Northside United Church, Seaforth On March 27 and St. John's Church, Stratford on April 3. They will be taken to .Huronview, Clinton, to be used in their crafts. The meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction. Twelve Tables of Euchre There were 12 tables of progressive euchre in play on Friday evening. in the Walton Community Hall. Mission Band The February meeting of the Mission Band was held in the church basement Sunday morning with 26 in attendance.
