The Brussels Post, 1974-02-06, Page 8With the lifting of the quarantine on Monday morning, programs during the week were back on schedule. Marie Flynn of Clinton assisted Mary Taylor, Norman Speir and Jerry Collins to provide the Old. Ty me Music for M onday's get-together along with volunteers from the Clinton Christian Reform Church. The Blyth W.I. were hosts on Wednesday for the January Birthday Party. The twenty-six celebrants were presented with gifts, following the program. Mrs. John Hesselwood, President of the Institute was M.C. for the afternoon and introduced the following members: a sing-a-long led by Mrs. Campbell accompanied by Mrs. Richmond; vocal solos by Debbie Hicks accompanied by Mrs. McDougall; Mr. and Mrs. Calvert Falconer showed coloured slides of places of interest in the Blyth area and across Canada. Gaily decorated cup cakes and tea were served to 150 residents and guests by the ladies. Norman Speir one of the celebrants, thanked those responsible for the party. Jim Lawrie of Blyth arranged and introduced a special Bobbie Burns program for "Family Night" on January 24th. Mrs. Norma Daer was piano accompanist for the evening with dance numbers by Karen Glousher, Kim Craig and Pat • Stackhouse: songs by Bill and Mary Marsh, harmonica selections by Lloyd Waldem, Harvey McDowall and Jim Lawrie. Administrator Chester Archibald, a patriot of Robbie Burns, thanked the entertainers on behalf of everyone. The Rythm Band from Goderich Psychiatric Hospital with Gordon Harrison as leader and piano accompanist, provided the "Family Night" program. Shorty Munro M.C. for the evening, introduced the numbers which included selections by the band, vocal solos and duets, marimba solos, a mouth organ and violin trio and the Charleston. Miss Ida Cunningham expressed the appreciation of the residents for the fine hour of music. 25 Year jewels presented People we know Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Turnbull with Mrs. G. Prize winners were: High Lady - Mrs. Elsie Evans; Low Lady, - Miss Luella Mitchell; High Man - Norman Hoover; Low Man - John Conley. The draw for the ham was won by Mrs. M arguerite Crawford. Lunch served by the Oddfellows brought a pleasant .ocial evening to a close. The next card party will be held on February 14th. District Deputy Grand Master Alex Meikle of Exeter presented 25 Year Jewels to Brothers Jack Mitchell, Ross Nichol, Mac Shaw, Jack Bowman and Douglas Hemingway of Western Star #149 1.0.0.F. Lodge at their meeting on Thursday night. Mr. Meikle discussed the United Nations Speaking Contest to be held in February and the new eye testing machine which the Huron County Lodges are donating to the County Health Curlers win in Wingham Brussels Curlers won 2nd prize in Wingham at the annual OPP Bonspiel. The rink included skip - Max Oldfield; Vice- Bill Beacom; 2nd Jack Bryans; Lead - Gordon Stephenson. Unit. A special guest was • District Deputy Grand Master Elmer Lee of District #12.
