The Girl GuideS met again for
their weekly meeting on Tuesday,
January 21st. Mrs. Watts, Guide
Leader, went over badges with
the girls. The girls were
separated into small groups to
review different signals. After the
announcements were made we
were told the L.O. were meeting
the following night to discuss our
trip to Ice Capades. About 10
minutes before close of meeting
Carol Whiting held a surprise
birthday party for Cathy Dietner's
1 lth birthday. Cathy received a

Leader and all the Guides and.

The Atom "A" team entered
the Winter Carnival Tournament
on Jan. 19th in Seaforth to defend
the trophy they had won last year.
Their first opponent in the
elimination tournament was
Zurich whom they defeated 8 - 2.
Opposition for the second game
was provided by Mitchell who had
defeated Wingham in their
morning game. An excellent
game of hockey ensued with
Brussels trailing 3 -1 at the end of
the second period. In the third
period Brussels came back to tie
the score. Mitchell scored another
goal and then in ,the last 20

Brussels Stockyards Curling
Bonspiel in Brussels arena on
Monday.
Cutlers taking part were from
Monkton, Seaforth, Mitchell,
Listowel, Gorrie, Blyth,
Harriston, Goderich and
Brussels. ,
This very successful bonspiel
provided keen competition.
The overall trophy went to the
Graham Jackson team of
Listowel.

On Saturday, January 26,
Robert L. Blake was injured in a
single car accident on Mill. Street,
east of Elizabeth Street in
Brussels. Damages to his vehicle
were estimated t $800.00.
Curlers win at
Harriston
Brussels Ladies won the 9
o'clock draw in the Harriston
Ladies Bonspiel with 3 wins plus
13. The rink included: Skip Wilma
Rathwell;vice Nora Stephenson;
2nd Jackie Pettapiece; Lead
Isabel Rathwell.
seconds ,Brussels pulled the
goalie to have six attackers and
Mitchell scored in the empty net
to end the game with a 5 - 3 score
in Mitchell's favour. Mitchell
went on to win the tournament
trophy.
The 'youngest hockey team, The
Novice Club has been busy
playing a few exhibition gamest
this past few weeks. They hayed
had four wins and a tie. They
were Brussels 5, Lucknow 1;
Brussels 5 Lucknow 0; Brussels 3
Listowel 3; Brussels 1 Seaforth 0;
Brussels 5 Seaforth 2. •A
promising young bunch of hockey
players.
The local teams ar e currently
playing to pick a representative to
go on to an O.M.H.A. playoff
' birth. The midget team played
with Milverton and were
eliminated after 10 - 2 and 6 - 3
losses to the Milverton team.
The Pee Wee team is playing
with Lucknow. They lost the first
game in Lucknow 4 - 3 after going
into overtime. They evened the
series Sunday , afternoon in
Brussels with a 4 - 2 win. Keh
Cousins, Scott Wheeler, Darwin
McCutcheon and John Richmond
were the scorers in that game.
The third and deciding game of
the series will be played in
Lucknow on Friday, February 1st.
The Bantams also are playing
Lucknow in their series. They won
their first game in Brussels on
Wednesday night by a 6 - 4 score.
The second game to be played on
Monday night in Lucknow.
The Brussels Minor Hockey
teams ar e returning to Garden
City on February 9th and 10th.
They are not taking a bus this
year and are asking the parents to
provide rides for the players. If
they are not able to attend they
are asked to find a ride for their
child and notify the coach of their
team as to, their plans, so that all
arrangements can bed finalized.
Recent investigations carried
out by the OPP of Wingham
Detachment include:
Six investigations with, six
persons charged under the Liquor
Control Act.,
Seven charges laid and ten
warnings issued under the
Highway Traffic Act.
Twenty-nine other
investigations.
On January 21, Albert F.
Holzschuh of Stouffviile and
Donald Burley of R.R.4,
Wingham were involved in a
collision on Helena Street, north'
of Victoria Street in Turnberry
Township. No one was injured,
•and damages were estimated at
$225.00.
