Candlelight carol service fills United Church

The Belgrave United Church
, was filled to capacity on Sunday
evening for a Candlelight Carol
Service.
The children of the Sunday
School, The Hi-C group and a
choir made up of members from
all churches in the community
formed a processional and
entered the church singing,
"Silent Night".
The service consisted of carols,
scripture readings and special
choir numbers. Rev. John G.
Roberts led in prayer. The
scriptures were read by Harold
Vincent, Mrs. Glenn Coultes,
Mrs. George Procter, Barbara
Muilwyck, Mrs. Gordon Bosman,
Dale Lougheed and Gilbert
Beecroft.
The Sunday School choir sang,
"A Rocking Carol", the Hi-C
members sang, "Go Tell it on the
Mountain" accompanied by
guitar music and the adult choir
sang "What Child is This" and
"The Coventry Carol". This carol
service was planned and directed
by the organist and choir leader,
Mrs. Linda Leytz and Rev. John
Roberts.

recently. Co Master H. Webster
visited the lodge and conducted
the election and installation of

the home of Mts. Herman

The church calendars were sold
and the dues paid. The draw was

concert of Knox United Church on
December 21.
Rev. John Roberts acted as
chairman for a fine entertainment
of choruses, hirmorous skits,
monologues, recitations, band
numbers, vocal renditions and
carol singing.
The concert opened with
choruses by the school, followed
by a vocal duet by Andrea Coultes
and Julie Guay, who sang
"Thirty-two Feet and Eight little
Tails". Anne Procter then recited
"Surprise for Santa".
The beginners gave a -finger
play in song. Clifford Coultes
contributed humorous
monologues to the enjoyment of
all. Marni Walsh and Alison
Roberts wrote the playlet "A
Quiet Christmas" which was
enacted by the members of the
Intermediate Boys' and Girls'
class. Joan Higgins chose as her
recitation "The Red, Red
Berries".
. The Junior girls then presented
a dialogue "Nancy Green's Good
Will". At this point in the
program the Shindigs, a school
band, favoured with four
selections.
The Nixon family, johm Calvin,
Glen, Marjorie and Steven
presented a humorous skit, after
which Julie Guay recited.
The five Coultes sisters sang in
their usual fine style.
The Junior Boys acted "The
Old Ford Car". Murray Scott read
the account of the hazardous trip
of Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard in
search of a new cupboard.
A duet by Kelly Lougheed and
Sheila Anderson was sung.
The Primary Class recited "For
Santa. Claus Might Know".
A make-believe bus trip with
the Junior Boys was the cause of
much amusement.
Mr. Roberts sang amusing
verses which he had composed
relating to a number of persons
from the congregation.
Santa Clans arrived and in his
usual jovial manner presented
gifts and candy bags.
Honor Couple
A reception and dance was held
last Saturday evening in honour
of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bosman
(Donna Chamney) in the
Women's Institute Hall.
Music for dancing was supplied
by Scotts Orchestra.
Before lunch was served Donna
and Don were asked to come to
the front when Murray Vincent
read an address to them and John
Nixon presented a gift of money.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Bosman
made fitting replies.
White Gift Sunday
White Gift Day was observed in
Knox United Church, Belgrave on
Sunday, December 16 with Rev.
John Roberts conducting the
service.
Three members of the Boys'
and Girls' Intermediate Class,
Joanne Coultes, Marni Walsh and
Joanne McArter read passages
relating to the Christmas story.
The envelope contributions,
which this year are being donated
to the "New Tribes Mission",
located near Durham, were
collected in two small decorated
baskets by Mark Taylor and
Howard Roberts.
Mr. Roberts spoke mainly to
the members of the school who
were seated in the front pews. His
remarks referred to the
significance of the star which the
Wise Men followed and related it
to the present day comet Which
may. be seen any morning now
Christmas is a time of expectation
for both children and adults he
said. The children were requested
to sing "Away. in a Manger'!.
Using a fatthing as an' example
of small money, which he
showed, he referred to the
Scripture passage of the woman
giving all she owned,
White Gifts were used so all
gifts appear equal, whether a
farthing or a fifty pound note.
The choir sang an appropriate
Christmas anthem accompanied
by the organist , Mrs. Linda
Lentz.
W.I. has Euchre Dance
The • Belgrave Women's
Institute held a euchre and dance
on Friday evening in the Institute
Hall.
Eighteen tables of euchre were
played with winners as follows:
High Lady - Mrs. Bert Johnston;
High Man - Bert Johnston; tow
Ladies - Mrs. Howard Walker and
Miss Brenda Nethery; Low Man -
Allan Dunbar; Man with most

December 22nd, Trinity Anglican
,Sand ay School held its Christmas
,ocial in the. Belgrave Community
Centre.
The hall was decorated with a
Christmas tree laden with gifts.
The program opened with
recitations, tap dancing, piano
solos, organ solos, duets, solos
and readings. The beginner and
primary classes sang a hymn.
Following the Sunday School
numbers, Mr. and Mrs, Clare
Van Camp presented slides
showing their trip to British
Columbia.
Santa Claus arrived on
schedule to the great delight of
the smaller children and
distributed gifts and bags of
candy.
