The Grade 8 Assembly was
opened with "0 Canada." The
grade eight's did their assembly
on "Thanksgiving. P2
In the assembly were two
plays called "The First 'thanks-
giving" and "Now and Then."
Connie Meurs and Sheila
Shobbrook read a poem which was
called iThanksgiving'' and
44Thanksgiving as a Pilgrim."
The class all, joined in a few
songs with their teacher Mr. Orr.
W.I. Notes
The Women's Institute met
Tuesday evening October 16 in
the Community Centre. Presi-
dent Mrs, Norman Coultes pre-
sided. Mrs. George Procter was
at the piano. The president wel-
comed visitors and members and
secretary, Mrs. Ross Higgins
reported. Correspondence in-
cluded a thank-you note from
HuronvieW and from Muscular
Dystrophy for donations.
The Area 'Convention is to be
held in Banqueter Hotel, London
on November 7 and 8 and Mrs.
Norman Coultes was appointed as
delegate.
The new arena board member
Is Mrs. Clarence Hanna.
The committee appointed to'
arrange for Holstein Banquet,
November 21st, was Mrs. George
Procter, Mrs. Garner Nicholson
and Mrs. Lorne Jamieson. The
report of the Huron County Rally
in Centralia was given by Mrs.
Ross Higgins and Mrs. Norman

proved quite interesting.
The address was, given by
Mrs. Gordon McBurney, It cen-
tered on "Belgrave", the past
and the present. She said Bel-
grave as big or as little as
we choose to make it.• She had a
map of the streets and homes in
the village each having name of
various streets and homesin
numbers and quiz followed to lo-
cate our homes on the right street.
Mrs. George Procter favored
with music on the piano accord-
ian. The collection was received
and a quiz was conducted by Mrs.
Stan Hopper, comparing prices
of food and commodities from
1893 up to 'our present prices,
which was astounding. Mrs.
Procter thanked all who took
part making the program very
interesting and informative.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
Garner Nicholson, Mrs. George
Michie, Mrs. Gordon Higgins and
Mrs. Hazel Procter.
SEND GET-WELL CARDS
The Belgrave Junior Aux-
iliary met Saturday morning in
the Orange Hall with the presi-
dent Audrey Scott leading in the
opening exercises. Cathy Shiell
had charge of the roll call. Min-
utes of the last meeting were
read by Alison Roberts. Patti
Edwards and Alison Roberts col-
lected the offering and Audrey
Scott recited the offertaryprayers
The treasurer's report was
given by Joan Higgins. The
members decided to send a get-
well card to Rev. F. Carson.
Plans were made for the Hal-
loween party on' October 27 and
for the Christmas party on Dec-
ember 1st.
Elect Janet Cook
'The student council election
of the East Wawanosh Public
School was held on October 12
when the two teams worked hard
making posters and tags for their
teams. The winning' team was
Janet Cook, President; Sheila
Shobbrook, Vice-President; Don-
ald Dunbar, Secretary, and Jo-
anne Edgar, Treasurer. -

The Belgrave Chefs opened
their seventh meeting with pre-
sident Brenda Nethery conducting
the business and Jean Leishman
shOwing members how she had
designed the cover for their books,
The topic • was the Orient.
While Mrs. Richard MOore led
the discussion and took up the
handout sheets, Barbara Moore
made Chinese pork with vege-
tables and Jean Leishman cooked
the rice. The girls managed to
'eat this meal with chopsticks.
Most of them enjoyed it.

Meeting No. 6 of the Belgrave
11 Trans Canada Cooks was held
at the home of Mrs. peter Chand-
ler Tuesday. The roll call was
answered by naming One Thing
Knowh About Scandinavia or Fin-
land. Achievement Day plans
and home'-assignments were dis-
cussed. Alice Beecroft made
Apple Cake, Helen Chandler made
sweet and sour red cabbage.

The cost of educating Huron
County secondary students has
been compared to 71 other Boards
in the province, it was indicated
at a meeting of the Huron Board
on Monday. In business admin-
istration at $18 a pupilHuron was
tied 'with Halton County Board for
the lowest cost operation in Ont-
ario. In operations and main-
tenance at $112 a pupil, Huron
was sixth lowest. In actual ord-
inary expenses at $1,007 a pupil,
Huron was again sixth lowest.
Out of 120 Boards, the cost of
educating Huron County element-
ary students, Huron County, at
$11 per pupil cost for business
administration, tied with Niagara
SOuth for the third least expen-
sive function in Ontario. In op-
erations and maintenance at $58
an elementary pupil Huron has
the least expensive function in
Ontario. In Instruction at $454,
a pupil Huron is twenty-first low-
est. In actual ordinary expenses
at 1533 per elementary ^pupil,
Huron was ninth lowest in the
province.
In other business at the meet-
ing, the salary schedule for dri-
vers of board owned school buses
was presented, retroactive to
September 1, 1973: The Board
will pay the bus drivers $2,250
per year in ten equal •monthly
payments and will pay spare bus

J. W. Coulter, Superintendent
of Program and Planning,
informed the Board that nine
students representing high
schools in Goderich, Clinton and
Wingham, have completed paint-
ing three murals depicting the
history of Benmiller. These stu-
dents worked under anOpportun-
ities for Youth grant of the Fed-
eral Government. Artist J. W.
McLaren of. Benmiller and Board
of EduCation personnel provided
resource help. The three high
schools will receive the murals.
The students also wrote a
history of Benmiller and consid-
eration' is being given to pub-
lishing it.
Mr. McLaren has applied to
the Canada Council for a senior
art grant to complete the large
mural he has planned of Benmil-
ler and has been given backing by
the Board.
D. J. COchrane, Director of
Education, reported on the 50th
convention of the Canadian Edu-
cation Association held in. Van-
couver in September, which he
attended along with Trustees
Herbert Thrkheini of Zurich and
Mrs. Donald Kunder of Seaforth.
The convention next year, Sep-
tember 25-27, 1974, will be held
in Regina, Saskatchewan.
