Grey Central 'holds successful bike rodeo
A group of junior students at Grey Central ride a straight line.
A total of 60 young cyclists
from Grey Central School,
Ethel, rode in a bicycle rodeo
held on the school grounds
last Thursday.
Sponsored by the Ontario Pro-
vincial Police and with the co-
operation 'of. .Principal Jim
Axtmann and his staff, the rodeo
involved both a written exam and
a road test. Faces tight with
concentration, the riders
manoeuvred their bicycles in:
a straight line; between road
markers; a figure eight; in and
out road markers; a stop sign
and traffic lights.
Constable Wayne Moulton of
the Goderich Detachment of the
OPP conducted the course. He
was aided by' R.L.Cunninghatn,
transportation manager for' the
Huron County Board of Educat-
ion. Students and teachers also
assisted.
David werham, a grade five
student, was the best overall
cyclist. Other winners are: In-
termediate girls: Bonita Van
Veen, first; Sharon Engel, second
and Wendy Smith, third. Inter-
mediate boys: first, Robert Arm.-
strong; second, Brad Knight
third, Leslie Stephenson. In
the Junior competition,,Rhe a
Veldhorst, first; Joan Cardiff
second, and third, Teresa Pres-
cott. Junior boys, David wern-
ham, first; Chuck Linn, second
and David Smith, third. In the
Primary Division Carla Knight
topped the girls, with Cathy
Smith second, and Wendy Barlow,
third. Steven Knight was first
among the primary boys, Philip
Weber and Scott Cardiff tied for
