Church Units hold monthly meetings

UNIT MEETINGS
The 17th and Boundary unit
met Wednesday afternoon at the
/wale of Mrs. Hugh Johnston.
Mrs. Jan. VanVliet Sr. opened
the meeting with the thought, for
the day followed by a poem,
"Breathe on me, Breath of God"
was sung and Mrs, VanVliet read
the scripture lesson from Luke
140, Mrs. cliff Ritchie took as
her topic "T he 'Last Prayer
Meeting".
The president conducted the
business. 'Mrs. Harold. cCallum
read: the minutes. It was agreed
to doriate•to the March of Dimes.
The Thankoffering ' is being held,
at Duff's 'United Church, Stinday
evening, April 1.15th., Mrs.. Van
Vliet offered to have the next.

The firemen were called last
week• to' a grass fire at the.
property of Mr. Ralph Nodden
when the barn took fire and was
destrOyed. Two other grass
fires were also put out the same
day. It is suspected the fires
resulted from children playing
with matches.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne ward
and family, Lindsay visited for
a few days with Mr. and Mrs.
Wm. Dolson and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Chester Earl,
Rick and Judy, Mr. and Mrs.
Carl McDonald were supper
guests of Mr, and Mrs. Gary
Earl, Wingham on Thursday night.
The occasion was Jeff Earl's
second birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Brem-
ner and Doris visited in London
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs,william
Bremier and family, it being
Paul Andrew • Bremner's
birthday.

Mrs. Stewart McCall opened
the devotional period with a poem,
"Voting" followed by singing "In
the Cross of Christ. I Glory"
accompanied by Mrs. Laverne
Godkin at the piano. Mrs, Dave
Watson read the scripture from
the first letter of John. The
meditation, "The Cress Con-
fronts us today" waas given by
Mrs. McCall.
' Mrs. Norman Schade gave the
topic from Hasten the Day by
Jessie Beatty, It told of a way-
ward girl named Jeannie, con-
cerning the indirect part a police-
man and a padre played in her
life. "Jesus keep me near
the Cross" was sung followed
by Mrs. Schade giving a prayer.
Mrs. John Burch conducted
business, thanking those who took
part in the leadership and topic.
The roll call was a "Blues
Chaser".
Lunch was served by the hos-
tesses. Mrs, Merton Hackwell,
Mrs. Keith Rock and Mrs. Camp-
bell Wey.

The second meeting of Walton
I Club was held at the home of
Kim Humphries on Monday even-
ing, march 26th.
The president, Margaret
Shortreed called the meeting to
order. It• was decided to have
the next meeting at Joan Bennett's
home. -

The third meeting of 'Walton
III Club of "Sportswear with
Knits" was held at the 'horne
of Dianne Dennis. The President
Joyce McCallum opened the
meeting, It was decided lb name
the club, "Sporty Knits". ' •
The leaders, Mrs, Mc
Callum and Mrs. Barry Hoegy
gave tips on pressing.
The 'fourth meeting of Sporty •
Knits, Walton III was held at
:Marion and Joyce McCallum's
hOme. The secretary, Peggy
Dennis, read the. minutes. The
leaders talked atiout neckline
facings, and the bending rolled
edge trim, also appliques were
discussed.
Mr. and Mrs. t' Harold Me
Callum, Marion andJoyce visited
recently with friends in Detroit.
We are sorry to hear Willie in
Bell has been a patient in'wing-
ham Hospital, his many friends
hope he'll soon be able to be
back home again.
Mr.. and Mrs. Eggleston?. and
little daughter of Goderich have
taken up residence in their new
home on the farm formerly owned
by Ron Williamson. We welceme
the Eggleston family to the
Walton Community. •
This coming Sunday, the
Mission Band members are re-
minded of their meeting at the
same time.

Grass fires start early
MRS. STANLEY COOK
Mrs. Stanley Cook of Bel-
grave died in Wingham and Dis-
trict Hospital on March 27 follow-
ing a heart attack. She was 72.
Born in East W awanosh Town-
ship, she was the former Violet
Buchanan, a daughter of the late
Robert Buchanan and Elija MO-
Culloch. She attended school
at U,S.S.No, 6 East Wawanosh.
She 18 survived by her husband
to whom she was married In 1.924
and a daughter Gwen, Mrs.Bruce
Marshall of London. She was
predeceased by a son John. She
is also survived by a sister
Mary, Mrs. Roland Vincent of
Blyth and by 14 grandchildren and
a great-grandchild.
Following their marriage the
couple farmed on the 6th con. Of
East Wawanosh from 1924 to
105 and until their retirement
to Eelgra.ve in 1964 on the 4th
