Review home care TODAY'S CHILI)
program in Huron
During the past year 1972,
198 patients were prOvided with
Home Care by the Huron. Home
Care Program. The objectives of'
Home Care are the care of the
patient at home in place of hos-
pital care, either by early dis-
c harge or in place of hospital
care.
Horne Care is provided to se-
lected patients, as ript everyone
can be adequately cared for at
home. The patient must be re-
•
ferred by their family doctor and
must need either Nursing care
or Physiotherapy, and their
medical condition must appear to
have a possibility of improving
to a position of independence.
When a patient is. accepted
for Home Care, the following
services may be provided, Nur-
sing care, Physiotherapy, Home-
making„ Drugs and Dressings,
X-ray and Laboratory services.
These services are arranged ac-
cording to the individual require-
ments of the patient. The cost
of the service is paid by0.11.1.P.)
the same as if the patient is
in hospital.
Home Care may be provided
as long as the patient shows
improvement. The only restric-
tion is on the homerna, king ser-
vice, which is • limited to 80
hours per patient. If home-
patients received Physiotherapy,
and 107 patients received Home-
making.
making is required for a longer
period, it must be provided pri-
vately or arranged through the
Huron County Social Services.
Of the 198 patients who re-
ceived Home Care, 187 patients
received Nursing care, 52
patients received Homemaking.
The patients ranged in age
from 10 years to 95 years. and
53 patients lived, alone.
According to Mrs. Elizabeth
Cardno, the Home Care Nursing
Administrator, Home Care at
present is limited to giving ac-
tive treatment with rehabilitation
to selected patients, and does
not answer the needs of the
patient requiring continuing care,
such as Nursing or Homemaking.
With the curtailment in Home-
making service through Home
Care, an alternative method of
providing this should be de-
veloped, she said.

LIKES NURSERY SCHOOL
Bobby looks sweet and shy and gentle, and he is.
This handsome little fellow has beautiful big blue-grey
eyes, dark hair and fair skin with rosy cheeks. His back-
ground is Anglo-Saxon.
Bobby-four, is in good health but behind the average in
general development. He was born prematurely and had an
early hydrocephalic condition (abnormal build up of fluid
inside the skull) which cleared up itself. Doctors say it is
unlikely to reoccur. It is possible there may have been some
slight pressure on the brain during this period.
Bobby has been attending nursery school to give him extra
stimulation. He is doing well there but is still considered
to be a slow learner.
Quiet, co-operative and happy, Bobby used to be passive
if another child took his toys or hit him. Now he has learned
to stand up for his rights a bit, though still doesn't like to hurt
anybody or anything.
With a good memory, especially for songs, Bobby picks up
tunes fast and likes to sing the songs learned at nursery school.
Bobby needs parents who will give him stimulation as well
as love and attention. He should be the youngest in the family.
To inquire about adopting Bobby, Please write to Today's
Child, Box 888, Station K, Toronto M4P 2H2. For general
adoption information please contact your local Children's
Aid Society.
