Contrary to popular opinion,
it costs a lot of money to oper-
ate Minor Hockey. In the 19'71-
72 hockey season, over thirty-
four hundred dollars was spent
with ice rental taking the largest
portion with a total bill of $1225.
Other major expenses were re-
ferees at $550, equipment at
$868.15 for hockey and $288.60
for ball, Tournament and league
fees at $280 and insurance at $94.
with these figures in mind
along with the knowledge that we
were going to have ajuvenile team
and second teams in Pee Wee
and Bantam, it i s obvious how
a figure of $25.00 per player was
arrived at.
Our speculation that expenses
were going to increase this year
has come true. To the end of
January, ice rental is more than
$1,000.00, 'referees fees are
more than $400.00 and equipment
osts have exceeded $600.00.
ther minor expenses total about
500.00. It is estimated that
he expenses for the remaining
wo months will exceed twelve
undred dollars and along with
he $300 it takes to sponsor
oftball, it will bring the total
ost of this year's sports pro-
ram to more than four thou-
and dollars.
Minor Hockey has been able
o raise $2700.00 to this point
rough registration, grants and
ate receipts.- With about $600
et to be received in grants, it
ayes a deficit of $700.00 to
e raised through gate receipts.
hen you consider that the re-
eipts at the door for the first
ree months have been $440,
u can no doubt understand why
inor Hockey would like to see
s of people at the games to be
ayed in the two remaining
onths.
