Annual l'onventiow Held Last Week In
Dungannon Methedtst Chords.
The twenty eighth annual conventional
Goderich District Woman's Missionary
Society was held in Dungannon Metho-
dist church on Thursday, May l)th; Mrs.
Hick, district superintendent, M the
chair. The devotional exercises were
conducted by Mrs. Hisey, of Nile. A er
the preliminary business the "Hera) "
were called to report for the different

Mrs. John Graham, of Sheppardton,
responded for China. telling of the bricks
being taken from the city wall to build
the church in Chentu. Miss Annie
Wightman, of Westfield. reported for
Japan, emphasizing the need of more
workers. Foreign work in Canada was
taken by Mrs. Reycraft, of Goderich,
who told of the work at Edmonton and
Kolokruka. Oriental work in Vancouver.
B. C., was taken by Mrs. Long. of Ben -
mills., who spoke of the loss of the pastor
and the n'ed of workers. there being
only sixty workers for 8,000 people. In-
dwn work was presented by Mrs. Mc.
Qut7ed, of Crewe, who told of the 4,28.5
children, between the ages of six and
sixteen, with only 2,36.5 enrolled in the
sc loots. Nur-. Million, of Auburn, re-
sponded for the French work, and told( of
the work is the French school in Mont-
ual,
Mil. Pentland, of Nile, gave a very
interesting paper on 1 emperance.
Mrs. Siwyer and Mrs. Moon. of
Londe•-boro', sang a duet entitled, "Some-
body's Praying for You."
The reports of the Auxili'ries, Circles
and Bands were very encouraging, twelve
but of the nineteen auxiliaries having
reached the objective, both in members
and in money. One new Circle with forty
members and one new Band had been
organized during the year.
A short discussion followed the reports.
A paper on "The Valeo of an Auxiliary to
the Church" was given by Mrs. Beaton, of
Ontario street. Clinton. "The Value of a
Mission Band" was presented by Mrs. E.
Bender. Blyth. and Mi,s Bailie, of Gode-
rich. gave a talk on "The Value of the
Mission Circle to the Church."
It was move) by Mrs. Colborne,
Goderich, seconded by Mrs. Woods,
Westfield, that the registration fee be
raised to 25c. Moved in amendment by
Mrs. Carr. Blyth, s vonded by Mrs.
Irwin, Dungannon, that it be 15c. The
amendment carried.
The Blyth Quartette. Mesdames King,
Floody and McE!roy and Miss Hilborne,
with Miss Gid:ey as accompanist, ren-
dered a very beautiful relectton, "Thine
for Service."
Mrs, Hick was again unanimously
chosen superintendent. witb Mrs. Carr as
assistant, and Mrs. Andrew as secretary.
Mrs. Colborne conducted the quiet
half-hour, whi.h proved very restful and
uplifting.
During the tea hour, Mrs. Steadman, of
Dungannon, welcomed the convention,
and Miss Thompson of Donnybrook very
ably resisted( d.
The evening session opened with Mrs.
Carr. the assistant superintendent. pre-
siding. Devotional exercises WIN taken
by Rev. T. A. Steadman, pastor of the
Dungannon church. The choir gave a
selection, "Glory to God in the Highest."
The report of the district superinten-
dent was very encouraging. The district
this year raised 82.983.20, an increase
over last year e( 1769.65. The member-
ship
r
ship for the year was 664. 81258:3 was
raised for a new school at Radway Centre,
in the Ruthenian settlement in Alberta.
A' solo, "My Grace Is Sufficient for
Thee." was rendered by Mrs. Sawyer, of
Londesboro'.
An address on "Christian Stewardship"
was given by Mrs. McCamus, of Clinton,
which was inspiring and pointed, the
closing appal 01 her address being:
"Give. give. give.
Be always giving.
Who gives not is not living.
The more you give
The more you live."
A selection of much beauty, "Christ
Shall Be King," was given by the Blyth
Quartette. This was encored, the response
being "Win Them One by One."
A very touching reading, "The Faith of
Hetty Rya." Was sp'endidly rendered by
Miss Rose Aitken, of Godefich.
One hundred and sixty-three delegates
from the different auxiliaries registered.
The beautiful weather added much to the
enjoyment of the day.
This was one of the most succe's(ul con-
ventions held in Goderich district. The
collections amounted to 842.
Thr convention was brought to a close
with the benediction pronounced by Rev.
T. A. Steadman,

A letter from Hon. W. l'roudfoot

THE LATE DR. GORDON.- he death
occurred at his home here on holiday
last, after a long period of ill- II h, of
Duncan MacDonald Gordon, M.for

titioner here. Dr. Gordon was born St.
Helenss xt y,one years ago. the son of r.
and Mrs. John E. Gordon, who were 1
eer residents of that locality. Before e

merchant. Graduating from Trinity Med- \
ical College in 1886, he commenced prat- '
tice at Auburn, and in 1890 removed to
Luckn.,w, where until his illness carte up-

ful practice. in 1888 he married Mi•s Ida
Harrison, who survives him. with one son,
Huntly, and two daughters, the Misses
Rena and 1( innie. Dr. J. K. M. Gordon,
of Ottawa: John A. Gordon. of Winnipeg;
Mrs. Saunders. of Cayley, Alberta ; Mrs.
Inglis. of Vancouver : Mrs. McD nald, of

sisters. A private funeral service was held
at the home on Monday afternoon, and
afterwards at the Presbyterian church Y a
public service was held a -'d was attended
by a very large concourse of people from
town and country who had come to pay
the last tribute of respect to one who had
moved in and out among them for many
years. Rev. R. McCallum conducted the
funeral services and the members of Old
Light Lodge. A. F. and A. M., attended
in a body and at the grave in Green Hill
cemetery performed their impressive ritual.
