With twenty-nine. the Com ervatives with
twenty-seven. the Labor party with
twelve. and there is one independent
soldier member. the total membership
of the House numbest n 111. It
is thus seen that no party hesd
a majority ov r all others combined.'
and a difficulty oresents it elf in thea
fawning of a Governme that can rely
.con n the support of a ma urity of the
member: when the Legislature convene..
A combination of some kindween two
or more of the part es rettat bi effected
for the carryii g on of the aftairt of the
Pros/Inc!. and to bring this ahoy will•
require the exercise of atatesma ike
patience and skill.
* ]Naturally a combinatiod, or a work
'Hag arrangement. can be most readily
effected between the parties whose plat-
forms most nearly coincide, and there is
not sufficient di;Terence between the
policies of the United Farmers and the
Liberals to present any insur mountable
oalstade to an agreem nt. A coknbihation
of these two groups would command over
seventy members, and the Labor group
might also be brought in with its twelve
vote.. So far as se can see no other
possible combination can be made that
would stand the test. ' '
The U. F. 0. members will undoubtedly
meet. get acquainted with one another.
and appoint a leader. and this • leader
representing the largest ,troupof members
may be given the first o •portunity cf
attempting the to rmatign of a Govern- i
ment. On the other hand, Mr Desert '
is without question. by reason of his ea• I

that has 1u -t been elected. and the Lieu-
tenant -Governor may under the circum-
stances look to him for advice in the
peculiar and unprecede.eted situation that
has ams -n.
In the ordinary course of events the
Legislature will 'no' meet until early in
the new year. and the intervening time
should be sufficient for the inauguration
of the new Government. '

for August.
A total of $t.I46,632.931 in savings
bank deposits is a gratifying report that
many of the countries which have
emerged from war woulr' be glad to re•
port today. This is the position of
Canada as revealed in the bank state-
ment for August.
The amount is 1111,921,O66 better than
'the same month fast year, notwithstand-
ing the fact that a good part of it was
transferred to last year's 5600,000.000
Victory loan. and is $21,540,77s better
than July of this year.
This is a promising outlook for the
Victory loan campaign which fe a:
present being carried on. If the deposi•
tors in Canada's savings banks were to
say the word, they scald suhecribe the
8300.000,000 asked neatly four times over.
The success of the present effort should
be overwhelming.
