DR. CASE GETS THE CONVENTION.- •
The Conservative convention held at •
Wingham on Friday last. to choose a •
candidate for the North Huron seat in •
the Legislature made vacant by the ap-
pointment of Mr. A. H. Musgrove. the •
to member, to the postmastership of
Wingham. resulted in the selection of Dr. I •
T. E. Case, of Dungannon. after a hard •
and close contest. Dr. Case did not at-
tend the convention; having in some way
contracted a severe political chill; but his
interests were well and, as it turned out.
successfully looked after by a live
delegation which attended the convention
from this village. Those nominated were:
Dr. Case, Dungannon; Geo. Spotton.
Wingham: P. VI Scott, East Wawanoah:
John Joynt, St. Helens: Matthew Lock-
hart and Dr. B.C. Weir. Auburn; Dudley
Holmes and Dr. Redmond. Wingham. The
five last menti .red withdrew. leaving the
ballot to Dr. Case and Messrs Spotton
and Scott. On the first ballot the result
was: Spotton 72 Case 61, Scott 30. Second
ballot: Case 82. Spotton 82 with Ione
s led ballot. Dr. Redmond was in the
chair and having the casting vote gave it
in favor of Dr. Case, who thereupon be-
came the nominee of the convention. The
people of our village received the news
with much enthusiasm and on the return
of the delegates from Wingham in the
evening a prucessiori headed by children
waving flags. with wee Dorothy Allen and
Ruth Trealeven in the lead, marched
down to the Doctor's residence and in an
improvised carriage the Dr. and Mrs.
Case were conveyed to the square by a
number of enthusiasts under command of
Rev. 1. A. McKelvey. A large crowd
had gathered at the call of the town bell
and speeches were in order. Rev. Mr. Mc-
Kelvey made the first speech and then
called on Mn. Alliston to give a report
of the convention. Next Dr. Case was
called for. and he replied very fittingly,
thanking all for their support. Messrs.
Wm. Bailie, H. Bellamy and B. C. Mun-
nings (Goderich) also addressed the gath-
ering, and cheers were given for Dr. Case,
Mrs. Case. the Case boys at the front
and the whole Case family. The proceed-
ings were concluded with a hugebonftre,
to which both Tory and Grit contributed.
Those who attended the convention from
here were Mn. R. McKenzie, Mrs. Tho*
Stothers. Mrs Orser. Mn. Alliston, Mrs.
H. Jones, Mrs. John Savage. David
Glenn, T. G. Allen. John Savage, H. Bel-
lamy. H. Jones. Joseph A. Malkwgb, 1 •
Chas. Elliott. A. Diaper and Lone Mc-'
Kenzie. The riding thrdwghnut was well
represented. only two of the tearible num-
ber of delegates being absent.
