CAMP BREAKING UP.
TOMORROW SOLDIERS WILL ALL
BE DONE.

A busy Week for the Men in Oamp-
A Series or Special Events Carried
Out Successfully - Tattoo' Last
Night Witnessed by Thousands.
By Friday afternoon the military
tamp of 1911 will be a thing ofTileBrucepast. The 82nd Bee Regiment end
a portion of the 3kb Wellingtons
bare already Irft this afternoon, and
some of the regiments still on the
grounds have struck their tents and
will bivouac for the last night. To-
morrow morning the 27th Lawbtons
orchestra and was A No. 1. The hotel
was very prettily and appropriately
decorated for the occasion.
The banquet on Tuesday evening is
reported in another cohmen.
The military tattoo on Wednesday
evening was the most brilliant spec-
tacle to which the citisans of Ooderich
have been treated since a similar per-
formance given during camp week in
1908. In spite of the chilly atmos-
phere. upwards of 5,0110 people lined
the bank on Gloucester Ternoe and
the G. T. R. tracks below the tense*
to witness the pi oceediogs. Many
from distant pointe were present, as
well en a large proportion of the citi-
zees of the town. While the soldiers
were assembling on the'Maltland Rate
a number of balloons were inflated
and their wanderings tbrv,ueh the
cloudless sky served to attr...,-t the at-
tention of the crowd and to relieve
the monotony of waiting until dark -

The prevailing sentiment among
the "(tidier. i. that the camp bas been
an enjoyable askin.o' ui one. The
lfrt
weather bet bealmost ideal, the
camp group s and the facilities pro-
vided have left little to be desired,
there has been an almost entire ab-
sence of sickness or odious mishap.
The officers men are not at all
backward in "lying that they have
teen well Irooted, and if their wishes
ere consulted the camp will be held
here again next year.
In addition to the solid work of the
camp --training, drilling, knocking in-
to soldierly shape the more or less
raw units --there has been a series of
special event* during the week which
have engaged the anent ion both of
the soldier, sad of the townspeople,
On Saturday afternoon the military
sports held cat the Agricultural Park
were witnessed by it fairly Targe
crowd of interested spectators. T .
weather, althoUgb veey warm, WAS
otherwise ell that could be desired for
such an occasion. In eves competi-
tion their. was a sufficient number of
cootestante to make it interesting for
the crowd, the Indians 'of the 26th
Regiment, however, carrying bff a
large proportion of the prises.
A great many townspeople vi%lted
the camp on Sunday. Many went
over with the idea oT seeing the reli-
gious sof vice in the morning, but,
wing to the fact that it was held
earlier than was generally expected.

The sermon was preacbed by Rev. L
R. Nattel. honorary cheplein of the
80th Wellington Rifles.
On Sunday the estop was strength-
ened by the arrival of the city regi-
ments from Windsor and Chatham.
The 21st Regiment from Windsor
arrived by train at 6 p. m. and two
bouts, later the 'teenier Oesifpe.ge
arrived with the 24th from Chatham.
Each regiment bad a strength of

Arm -informal daooe at Hotel Sunset
on Monday evening provided enter-
tainment for the officers. The affair
was arranged by a group of energetic
and hospitehle citizens and was much
appreci+ted by the officer.. The
mune wen supplied by the Blackstone
( cannon on the drill geared' at 9
o'clo ck was the signal ;or the lighting
of all the torches on the grounds.
"First Post" was sounded by the
m.s•ed bugle hands, and the seven
regimental tends payed their "march
I ast" music as they marched one by
one to a point in the centre of the
grounds and assembled while a comp-
any from each regiment paraded
across the grnunds, The Signal corps
of the Med Regiment (in command of
Lieut. Rundle and Corp. Collins) gave
an exhibition of semaphore signalling,
and at frequent intervals the sky was
brightlyilluminated by fireworks.
Followng this, music fr•sm theorised
bands wa4 heard with mucb appreci-
ation by the listening crowd, the pop-
ular alts. "O Caneda," "Rule Britan-
nia,' "lbs Maple Leaf," "Lead, Kind -
1y Light," and "Abide with Me" being
received with applause. The playing
of the National Anthem terminated
the program.
The arrangement' for the tattoo
were in charge. of Capt. Taylor, 80th
Regt.: Serst.-Mayor Borlend, R. C.
R.: Capt. Johnston, A. M. C., and
Lieut Baab, A. S. O. The fireworks
were pot on by Hand A Co , orf Handl-
toe. a man from the factory beim in
charge. This entertainment provided
by the officer; of the camp was great-
ly appreciated by the people of the
town and vicinity. Them was some
comment to the effect that the illum-
ination was not 50 good as three years
ago, some parte of the performance be-
ing difficult to see; but this can -he
bettered next year -it the ramp comes
here.
This morning was taken up with
field tactics, and the "coot.' parade"
tonight will finish the program
of special eventa for this camp, and to-
morrow the town will bid adieu to the
soldiers -with mutual regret., we be-
lieve.

ELECTRICAL POWER
FOR GODERICH.
J.L. Brodie, the Salt M- ai, Has An Inter-
esting Proposition.
A proposition is now before the
town council which may solve the
problem of securing electrical power
for Goderich industries. J. L. Brodie,
who is here io connection with his
salt project., states that, as eleotrtoad
power is necessary for the operation
of his manufactory, it would be eoo-
nomieal for him to drive an electrical
plant from the waste steam of the
salt plant, or to nee the gases and
steam from the electrical plant to
manufacture the Balt, in either case
making a considerable saving. He
proposes that the town give him an
agreement for the supply of power foe
the operation of the municipal water
and light plant, and a franchise for
the selling of power to private user
in the town.
u men t has been drawn up
before the town cousoiil at

evening.
Still another industrial proposition
is looming up -of which more anon.

splendid diarohea and some very good

The absence of C.pL W. H. Gundry
from the cusp is noticed and regretted
by the men of the 83rd Regiment. of
which he was formerly the very
efficient adjutant.
The Goderich and Wingbam com-
panies were rather conspicuous from
the tact that they weep practically up
to full strength. Some of the com-
panies were very weak in numbers.
A striking figure in the military
police detachment is that of Corporal
Joseph .1. Lawrence, of Guelph. He
belongs to. No. 9 Company of the 80th
Regiment and Mir -seta eonsideratds
