Of course it is a rank gerrysuander

Boycotting The $t. Marys Journal.
The St. Marys Journal has a just
omuplalot against the let. Marys
council in departing from an estab-
lished rule of afternatdug the printing
of bylaws in the two local tatters, and
giviog'rhe.tuurnal the go-by. If this
action was prompted- by a desire to
punish The Journal fur its criticisms of
the couui•i1•s tax rate, AM'I'ho Juurual
wispects, it wee unworthy of a repre-
sentative body. The right of a news-
paper to criticise the actions of public
bodies in a fair manner has been lung
eataldisbed, and if the SI. Marys couu-
eil thinks that it ran use .the people's
money to silence such criticism it will
discover that public opiuiuu is not
with them. The Journal very prop-
erly rays that it claims "the right to
criticise fairly and openly the doings
of the council. Whether we get our
lair shale of the few i deed dullats
in siunicip.d printing or whether we
get not cue tent, we pl11p1144' t/l 44311-

council, whether it was intended to
stifle criticism in The Journal or to
pay up NNW petty spite, is utterly un•
worthy of any bxxly of wen." The,
Journal exculpates the publisher of
Ile Argus from being a party to the
proceeding. --Stratford Beacon.
