in New York. From early childhood Mr.

HARrrrtr MAo+AzINs.—When, more than
a year ago, a short story, entitled "Bobbo,"
was first published in Harper's Magazine,
ttaorigioality and spirt won for it immedi-
favor, and its •uther, Thomas Wharton.
received several offer' for permission to
dramatize it. It practically established
Mr. Wharton as a writer, though he had
previously published two clever novels, sod
bad long been a oontributor to the period -
toil and the daily press. His death, shortly
afterwards at the age of thirty-seven, lends
• peculiar interest and sentiment to the col•
lection of soma of his stories end verses, en-
titled " Robbo, and Other Fancies," which
the Harpers are soon to publish, with an in.
trodnotion by his friend, Owen Winter. Mr.
Wharton was • Philadelphian, a graduate
