SAD DEATH DV Dsowstu. -Friday
•vouiug lest • melancholy and fatal acci-
dent occurred at the Fills Reserve
whereby Mrs Xavier Ba,chler lost her
life by drowning. She had gone to the
ricer to get some water, and slipped in,
and being unable to recover her footing
she wok into the water and expired.
Moo the body was recovered it had
only beau in the water a short time, but
though every means known were resort-
ed to, reeucitatiun could not be accom-
plished. The funeral service was one -
ducted at St. Peter's church on Sunday
afternoon, and was largely attended.

lecture by J. W. Benzough, of Toronto,
Drip's cartoonist, on Friday evening was
fairly attended. The lecturer has been
in Goderich and vicinity on a number of
occasions and although on Friday even-
ing he did not give much new matter, he
succeeded in aiming the risible* of hie
audience many times during the lectors.

departed this life SAturda , Oct 24th,
in the person of Slirgare€ E Dar:tb$ton,
wife of onr respected townsman, Rnht,
Prondfoot, merchant, Ramilton-st. De•
*eased csooe to Huron in 1833, when she
was in her seventh year, and resided in
Goderich and vicinity from that date
until the day of her death. She was a
daughter of the late Richard Darlineton,
who emigratd from the county of Wi,;k-
low, Ireland, in the year above mention-
ed, and who with others of the Old'
Country gentry settled in this netiehbor-
hrod at that time. She wags woman of s
kindly disposition and beloved by all
who had the privilege ,.f her ac'1uaint•
ante. For the past two or three years
she had been in tailing health. but until
a few days previous to her death ersry
indication pointed to her improve-
ment. She leaves ■ husbawd three
sons, two daughters, and • largo circle
of friends and acquaintances to mourn
her loos. The eldest son, R. A., is in
business in Pitredie, D•k., the second,
William, is a barrister and a member d
the well-known firm of Gerrie & Proud -
foot, the third .on, John M is associated
with his fatlirr in the mercantile bu.i
nese, the eldest daughter Mr. ?dowels,

her invalid mother. The funeral, which

South. The sermon was a telling one,

filled at both services, but especially in
the evening. Monday, the 26th, was the
day of ordination and induction of Raw.

McLean, Ramsey, Irvine, Kastle, Simp-
le and Cameron. All referred to mat -
noway in favorable terms, even those
who were unmarried. The supper was
excellent. Proceeds $84. Excellent
music was furnished by Goderich choir.
At the social Tuesday night for the

speakers were Rev. Mean McMillan
and Young, and Dr. Young, of Wing -
ham. Singing by the choir and recita-
