The farmer was busy trim-
ming wicks and filling his lamps
with kerosene one day when a
stranger stopped to ask for a
drink of water. Theygot into a
conversation and the stranger
said he was surprised to see
that the farmer still used ker-
osene lamps when rural elec-
trification was available.
"Don't you want it?" he ask-
ed.
"Oh," the farmer replied,
"we've got it in case we ever
need it, but so far we haven't
had to use it because we've
never run out of kerosene."
