(This picture loaned by Mrs. Harold Thomas) '0 News of CRANBROOK Correspondent Mrs. Mac Engel Mrs. Jack Knight was hostess for the October meeting of the Evening Group of the W.M.S, A poem on "Giving" was read by the president, Mrs. Stewart Steiss. Hymn 140 "For the beauty of the earth" was sung and verses on "Thanksgiving" from the Psalms were read by Mrs. Norman Pfeifer. Psalm 140 was read in unison, followed by prayer by Mrs. Pfeifer and a meditation "That we might re- joice, The First Thanksgiving". Minutes, treasurer's report, offering and cards and visits were included in the business period. It was announced that the annual bazaar will be held in the Com- munity Centre onNovemlier lath. The Thanksgiving topic, "Mrs. OsbOrne's Awakening" was given by Mrs. Pfeifer. Mrs. Jack Conley and the hostess served lunch. The service in Knox Pres- byterian church has been with- drawn for October 29th in faVour of the Monkton anniversary ser- vices . The following Sunday, Nov. 5th the time of service will change for the winter months to Sunday School at 12:30 and ser- vice of worship at 1:30 p.m. BUCHANAN DRY CLEANERS Standard time. Miss Lavinia Hodges of Wind- sor has been visiting with her Mece, Mrs. Stuart Stevenson. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Huehn, Conestoga, visited with Miss Emylene Steiss over the week- end. Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Mc- Cutcheon, Proton Station, visit- ed Mr. and Mrs. Clare Veitch on Sunday. Earl Baker, a former Cran- brook resident, son of the late Mr.and Mrs.Peter Baker,passed away in Dearborn, Mich., on Monday, October 23rd. Smiles • • • The farmer was busy trim- ming wicks and filling his lamps with kerosene one day when a stranger stopped to ask for a drink of water. Theygot into a conversation and the stranger said he was surprised to see that the farmer still used ker- osene lamps when rural elec- trification was available. "Don't you want it?" he ask- ed.
