Rural mall couriers are
shown much, more consideration
these days than was the case in
the “Good Old Days". In those
years they carried the mail on
holidays, including Christmas,
as well as every other day but
Sunday. Now they are not re-
quired to deliver the mail on
holidays, and justly so. They
have as, much right to enjoy hol-
idays with their families as much
as anyone else.

One of oursquirrel friends, in
those strong, cold, winds on Sun-
day, sat on our front walk, eat-
ing his Thanksgiving dinner. He
nibbled away at tid-bits he pick-
ed from the lawn. We felt
sorry for the poor thing, even
with his ample fur coat, and
tossed out a few choice mor-
sels, which he came back to eat
He expressed his thanks by whis-
king about for our amusement.

Dogs on leashes, or carried
cats in, sacks or cuddled in
their owners arms, went willy-
filly for their shots last Thurs-
day. Dogs of many breeds, tiny
dogs, small dogs, big dogs, huge
dogs, well bred cats, cats of
mixed ancestry, well-behaved
cats and clawing cats, all got
that one quick jab that protects
them from rabies. Dogs ob-
served in the operation took the
needle without a whimper. They
were as frisky leaving as they
were on arrival. One gentle-
man this writer is intimately
acquainted with, declared that
dogs and cats are luckier than
some humans. They nly have to
have one shot a yea, while dia-
betics have to have at least
one a day every day.
