Mrs.Allan McCall
A pleasant evening was held
in Duff's United Church on Wed-
nesday to honor Miss LindaTra-
viss, bride-elect of this month.
The basement of the church was
decorated for the special
occasion with yellow and , white
streamers with a yellow umbrel-
la hanging over the decorated
chairs, Corsages were pinned
on Linda, her mother, Mrs.
Ralph Traviss and her grand-
mother, Mrs. Russell Marks.
The groom's mother, Mrs. Gin-
gerich of Kitchener was unable
to be present.
Mrs. Ron Bennett was master
of ceremonies for the program,
welcoming everyone who came to
help make this evening to cele-
brate Linda's forthcoming mar-
riage to Roy Gingerich of Kit-
chener.
The program consisted of a
solo by Cathy McGavin entitled.
I I'm a lonely little petunia" ac-
companied on the piano by her
mother, Mrs. Neil McGavin. Mrs.
Bill Humphries contributed a
reading, "Bride's first dinner".
Duet by Gail Traviss and her
mother entitled"What a beautiful
Day". Peggy Dennis did a step
dance, accompanied by Sharon
Marks at the piano and Mrs. Em-
merson Mitchell with the violin.
Mrs. Neil McGavin read a poem,
"Other fads". Dena Wey sang
two numbers, "Going Away" and
"Little Kids Dream" accompan-
ing with her guitar. Mrs. Herb
Traviss at the piano and Mrs.
E. Mitchell with the violin con-
tributed two numbers "When
Irish Eyes are Smiling" and
"Hold Me in Your Arms Dear".
Mrs. B. Humphries gave another
amusing reading followed by
Cathy McGavin singing in her
pleasing way a solo, "Me and My
Teddy Bear". Mrs. Ron Bennett
closed with a suitable poem.
Mrs. Wayne Baker, the
former Mary Bewley of Ingersoll
read the address of congratulat-
ions to Linda from her many
friends and neighbors. Linda was
presented with many beautiful
gifts by her girl friends. After
opening them Linda made a suit-
able reply. Everyone joined in
singing for "She's a Jolly Good
Fellow" which was followed by
some of the Walton Unit ladies
serving.
U.C.W. GENERAL MEETING
The United Church Women of
Duff's United Church, Walton,
met for their May meeting with
29 ladies present from all units.
Mrs. W. C. Hackwell was in
charge of the devotions for the
Walton Unit, "God of Mercy,
God of Grace" was sung with
Mrs. Martin Baan as pianist
followed by Mrs. Hackwell lead-
ing in prayer, MrS. Ron Bennett,
read the scripture lesson from,
passages in Chapters of Matthew,
Mrs. Hackwell read a Poem en-
titled "Hunihle Instruments",
Mrs., Walter Bewley conduc-
ted the business. The last ex-
ecutive meeting was read by
, Mrs. W, C. Hackwell, the re-
cording secretary. A committee
was named after much discussion
to look into the flooring for the
parlor. Mrs. Bewley thanked all
that had helped with the paint-
ing or cleaning of the basement
and a.uditoriurn of the church
with still more painting to be
done.
Mrs. Campbell Wey is to be
the delegate to attend the West-
minster week-end early in June.
It was agreed to send a bale
and donations of good clothing
are to be left in the basement
before May 29th. Thank you
cards were read, by Mrs. Herb
Traviss. Mrs. Ken McDonald
gave the treasurer's reports.
Rev. Derwyn Docken intro
duced a film entitled "Listen
Christian", concerning the M &
S fund, stressing that develop-
ment is people seeking justice,
;creating change, discovering
' education, sharing relief.
MISSION BAND
The Mission Band was held
in the basement of the church on
Sunday morning with 39 in
attendance.
Laura Dennis gave the Call
to Worship "For the Beauty of
the Earth" was sung with Diane
Godkin at the piano. Peggy
Dennis read the scripture les-
son, followed with prayer by
Terry Smith. Joyce McCallum
gave the secretary'S%report fol-
lowed by Patti McDonald giving
the treasurer's report, then re -
ceived the offering which was
dedicated by Laura. Dennis.
A film on an African boy
on "Somolia" was shown before
going to their classes with their
teachers, Mrs. Ross Bennett,
Mrs. Wm. Roe, Mrs. Merton
'Hackwell and Mrs. Mac Shol-
dice assisted by Debbie Wey.
Mr. and Mrs. Barry Saun-
ders and daughters, Megin and
Amy of Clawson, Mich., spent
the week end with Mr. and Mrs.
Allan Searle, Helen, Gail and
Mary.
Among those spending the
, week end with their parents were
Sandra Watson, London; Emma.
Shortreed of Guelph; Helen Searle
of Listowel; Brenda Bewley of
London and Sherril Craig of
London.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Zein-
tarski of Walled Lake, Mich.
spent the week end at the home
of Mr, and Mrs, Ray Huether.

land Kristen visited
with Mr. and Mrs. James Daley,
Cedar Springs, Blenheim, Mrs.
Docken remained due to her
father's illness. We wish Mr.
Daley a speedy recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. Allan McCall,
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Stevenson
and Ronald attended church ser-
vices Sunday morning at Blyth
United Church as guests of Susan
McCall, as she was among the
13 to join the church, later to
visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Jim McCall.
UCW Meets
The Afternoon Unit of Brus-
sels. U. C. W. met at the home
of Mrs. White on May 2nd when
sixteen members and one visitor
were in attendance. The De-
votional Theme was 'Alive with
His Life". The Call to Wor-
ship was given by Mrs. Hupfer
and "For the Beauty of the
Earth" wa s sung. Mrs. Miller
,read the Scripture and Meditation
taken from John, Chapter 1. The
group read Psalm 8 in unison.
Mrs. Cousins led in prayer. "A
Mother's Creed" was read by
Mrs. Hupfer. Mrs. Thomas con-
vened the business of the meet-
ing.
Miss Lucas presented the
topic. The tape recording was
entitled, "Robert Moffat comes
to Africa". It told the story
of his arrival' in South Africa
about the year 1807. He was
a young missionary doctor from
Scotland. On his arrival he
met with all sorts of vice ram-
pant in the country, which were
encouraged by a powerful slave
driver, African°. Robert Mof-
fat never rested until he en-
countered this fearless man. Dr.
Moffat's sword was God's Word
and eventually they became
friends.
Miss Skelton reported on the
"Used Stamp" work among the
Lepers.
The next meeting, June 6,
will take the form of a group
picnic at the hope of Mrs. Mc-
Fadden.
