The Brussels Novice hockey
team topped Lucknow by a 4-1
score Sunday evening to win the
best of three series in 2 straight
games and capture the "Bernie
Lazette" Zone 2 Novice Cham-
pionship trophy.
After only 25 second of play,
Brussels jumped into the lead
when Brian Scott poked home a
loose puck from a scramble in
front of the net. Lucknow evened
the score at the five minute mark
when the puck bounced off a
Brussels defenceman's skate and
onto the stick of Lucknow's Paul
Murray who tucked the puck
past a sprawling Leslie Williams.
Five minutes later, a Brussels
V
player gloved the puck in his
own crease and a penalty shot
was awarded to the Lucknow
team, but Leslie Williams out-
guessed the Lucknow player and
it proved to be the key play of
the game as less than two minutes
later, Tim Prior slipped home the
rebound of a shot by Darwin Mc-
Cutcheon and the Brussels team
never looked back. Ther e was
no scoring in the second period
but goals by Scott Wheeler and
Doug Cousins, in the final frame
provided the 4-1 Brussels
victory.
Late - last week, Brussels
earned the right to meet Lucknow
when they shutout a game Milver-
ton club by a 4-o score to win
the series 2 games to 1. Then
Friday at noon, Brussels
travelled to Lucknow for the first
game of the final series. Despite
water on the ice and poor playing

In a grudge match held here
last Saturday, the Moms and
Dads emerged with a 2-2 tie
with their offspring on the Brus-
•sels Tyke Hockey Team.- The
'first period resulted in no scor-
ing as the parents sped up and
down the ice and tried to stop
the tykes from organizing an
offensive.
Early in the second period,
Ken Cousins and Brian Tenpas
combined to beat the Parent's
goalie Mary Tenpas and put the
Tykes on the scoreboard. A
few minutes later, following a
missed icing call, Ralph Wat-
son's misguided pass went in
front of the Tyke goa 1 where
Neil McGavin, in attempting to
get to his feet, slipped again
and accidently hit the puck which
then slithered through a maze
of legs which completely screen-
' ed Tyke goalie Jimmy Scott and
slipped into the corner of the
net to tie the score.
The parents jumped into a
'one goal lead early in the third
period on a goal by Ralph Watson
after he had received a pass from
Betty McCutcheoh. But shortly
thereafter the parents started
to tire noticeably and no matter
how hard the tykes tried not to
score, Brian Tenpas did put the
puck into the net when Terry
aGlanville's centering pass
bounced off his stick. Thus the
game ended with the Tykes an-
xious to continue and the parents
prespiring profusely and utter-
ing sighs of relief and comment-
ing on how they will, never again
criticize their son for the way
he plays.
Following the game, refresh-
ments were served and apprecia-
tion awards were presented by
the Tykes and their parents to
Coaches Ralph Watson and Jim
Prior for their work With the
Tykes this year.
0 n behalf of Ralph Watson
and himself, Mr. Prior said that
working with the Tyke team was
not what was considered work.
"It was a pleasure to direct
players who give you 110% at
all times and to be cheered on
by parents who co-operate com-
pletely with any decision we
made", he said and added " it
