In scanning the Mitchell Advocate we note in a report
that plans for a new county garage in the town of Mitchell
were approved by Perth County Council at, the Friday
meeting. The proposed building, 108 ft. by 72 ft, would
cost about $120,000. Signs are to be placed at the county
road entrances to welcome visitors to Perth County. Ten
signs will, cost $42.30 each.
The Zurich Citizens News relates that on Sunday
Mr. Joseph GelinaS marked his 92nd birthday, Seven
of his nine children were present for the occasion. Mr.
Gelinas is still in excellent health and enjoys his daily
walk downtown where he quite often takes part in a game of
solo. Eighty-six members of the families attended the
Sunday afternoon birthday party. - iMiss Carol Erb,
secretary of the Bean Festival Committee fo r a number
of years, was honored recently by the committee Thursday
night and was presented with pen, pencil and clock set by
Glen Thiel, chairman this year and past chairman, Doug.
Armstrong. Miss Erb is leaving in a couple of weeks for
Afghanistan for volunteer service with the Mennonite
Central Committee. She also received a gift from. Mr.
and Mrs. Gerald Gingerich on behalf of the Gingerich firm
where she was a valued employee for many years.
The. Milverton Sun reports that Whitney Horn, Reuben
Pehlke and Wilfred Broughton were presented at Monkton
with 25 year jewels by Rudolph Bauer and Norman Harvey,
fellow I.O.O.F. lodge members at a euchre party Friday
evening in the Lodge rooms.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Drennan, according to the Lucknow
Sentinel, marked their 50th wedding anniversary recently.
They have resided in Lucknow since 1942. — - Mrs.
Sam Beaton, Calgary, formerly of Lucknow, marked her
90th birthday recently. — - Mr. and Mrs. Jim Arnold,
who lost their store and home in Ashfield shortly after
Christmas, have let the contract for a new store and
residence to a Lucknow firm. Work will commence as
soon as weather permits. - - - Mrs. Mary Chapman of
Whitechurch observed her 85th birthday last week end. - -
Mr. William Hogan observed his 90th birthday Friday.
According to the Exeter Times-Advocate the South
Huron Association for the Mentally Retarded announced
this week they have taken an option on a building owned by
Kongskilde Limited at Exeter's north end. They plan
to use the building for a proposed adult workshop in this
area. Plans are already in the making for a giant campaign
for funds which will be kicked-off at a dinner-dance at the
Exeter Legion Hall, April 14th. — - Grand Bend council
learned Monday night that the Ontario Provincial Detach-
ment, which polices , the village each summer, will be
enlarged for 1972.' The force would include one sergeant,
four corporals and twenty-four constables. This Is an
increase of five constables over the 19'71 force. -
Dashwood's oldest resident enjoyed a double celebration
Friday, Mrs. Adella (Bammie) Fisher celebrated her 99th
birthday on St. Patrick's Day. Three of her great-grand-
children, Jeff, Jackie and John Musser, Exeter, attended
the happy event.
The Clinton News-Record relates that various sport
bodies were given a tour of the sport facilities at the
former Canadian Forces Base. Special guests were officials
from the Ontario Department of Education's Youth and
Recreation Branch and officials of other sport bodies. - - -
May 1st has been set as deadline for entries in the
"Name-the-Base" contest. First prize in the contest is
an $18,000 home on the base, the former home of the Base
Commander. Other prizes include trip to Caribbean,
recovering of a house in fibre glass siding and sets of
luggage. Entries are to be sent to the Mayor of Clinton
at Clinton Town Hall and marked "Name the Base Contest".
Judges for the contest will be Huron County Warden
and the Mayors of Clinton, Seaforth, Exeter, Wingham and
Goderich.

friends of the bride-elect gath-
ered at her home in Brussels to
"honor her niece, Miss AnnMarie
Alcock, daughter of Lloyd Alcock
and the late Mrs. Alcock of Walk-
erton. Miss Alcock's marriage
to Dale Seegmiller of Walkerton
takes place in April.
During the course of the event
the guest of honor was showered

PRESENTATION
A large crowd attended a
presentation for Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Stevenson on Friday even-
ing in the Community Centre. An
address was read by Graeme
MacDonald and Jack Knight pre-
sented the newlyweds with a gift
of money. Music for dancing
was supplied by Ken Wilbees'
Orchestra.
Rev. Donald Mc. I nnis, Ridge-
town, occupied the pulpit in Knox
Church on Sunday.
On April 9 at 1:30 Holy Com-
munion will be celebrated.
Miss Jane Gartley,Guelph,
spent the week end with Mrs.
Melvin Becker.
Mrs. Jack Conley visited for
a few days with friends in Kit-
chener.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Dunn were
in London on Sunday and visited
with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Muchan.

BRUSSELS
The community was shocked
by the sudden death of Mrs. Marie
Davis in Wingham Hospital on
Thursday, March 23rd in her 80th
year.
A long time resident of
Brussels, she was born in
England, the former Marie Char-
lotte Crump. Her husband,
MRS. GEORGE DAVIS George Davis, predeceased her
some years ago.
A member of St. John's Ang-
lican Church, she sang in the
choir for many years and was an
active worker in all her church
activities, also in community af-
fairS being an active member of
the Majestic Women's Institute
and the Horticultural Society
where her participation will
be greatly missed.
She is survived by one son,
James of Lucan, four grandchil-
dren and five great grand-
children.
The body rested at the M. L.
Watts Funeral Home, Brussels
until Sunday when funeral service
was held at St. John'S Anglican
Church at 3:00 p.m. with the
Rev. S. K. Hawthorne officiating.
Temporary e ltornbment took
place in Brussels BUrial Chapel.
Pallbearers were Jack Pipe,
Mervyn Pipe, James Smith,
George Davidson, Jack White and
Harvey Kitchen.
