Qn Tuesday evening Cayuga.
Midgets tied their best-of-three
0MtiA Serni-final series with
Brussels at 1.,1 When they out-
scored their visitors by a 6-3
score.
Brussels was playing without
the services of high-scoring
centre Gerald Wheeler who had
to sit out the game with a knee
injury, Early in the first Period,
defenceman Blaine McCutcheon
received a badly bruised, elbow
which left his right arm all but
useless for the remainder of
the night. With these two key
players on the injured list', the
Brussels attack was somewhat
stilted and at times the team
floundered helplessly in their own
end.
Defencernan Chris Exel
opened the scoring for Brussels
midway through the first period
with a slapshot from the paint.
Less than two minutes later
Cayuga notched their first of the
night with a three-way passing
play. With three minutes left in
the opening period Cayuga picked
up a loose puck in the Brussels
end when the Brussels defence-
men thought there would be an
icing call. But the referee waved
it off and Cayuga slipped the
luck past goalie Robert Steph-
enson. Before the period ended,
Roger Humphries stole the puck
at centre ice, i:ept in over the
blue line and let 4.o a low drive
that the goalten ,er could not
handle and period ended in a
2-2 tie.
There were no goals scored
in the second period but during
the last ten minutes, Brussels
was literally hanging on until
the period ended. After a min-
ute and thirty seconds in the
third, Cayuga notched their third
goal but less than three minutes
later Roger Humphries stole the
puck in front of the Cayuga goal
and tied the score again. But
when Cayuga scored at the mid-
Brussels Pee Wees lost their
first game in the Goderich Young
Canada Pee Wee Hockey Tourna-
ment to Grand Bend by a 6-1
score and were eliminated from
any further games in the tourn-
ament. Steve Pletch was the only
scorer for the Brussels squad

point of the period when playing

but over and they Scored two more
in the dying minutes to assure
their victory.
On. Thursday Brussels re-
turned to Cayuga but lost a rnarA-
thou contest by a 10-9 score after
three overtime periods of play.
Cayuga jumped into an early
first period lead as they scored
four goals while Roger limn-
phries notched the only tally for
Brussels. In the second period
Brussels started a comeback with
2 goals from. John Elliott, and a
single by Gerald Wheeler but
still trailed 5-4 at the end of the
period, Cayuga opened the third
period with a goal but Rick Mc-
Donald brought Brussels to with-
in one goal .by the middle of the
period and with only 40 seconds
remaining in the game, Gerald
Wheeler tied the score and .Ted
the game into overtime. Each
overtime period was to consist
of ten minutes and Cayuga star-
ted to make good use of it as
they scored 2 goals in the first
five minutes, but Rick McDonald
scored at the six minute mark
and. Gerald Wheeler scored with
29 seconds left to tie the score
again.
After a short rest the teams
came out for the secohd over-
time and Cayuga wasted no time
in taking a lead but With only
2 seconds left in the period,
Gerald Wheeler once more tied
the score. After changing ends,
the teams began the last over-
time period and with a little over
three minutes remaining, Cayuga ,
scored what proved to be the
winning goal, The players must
have been terribly disappointed
following the game but they can
take consolation in the fact that
they have gone further than any
other minor hockey team from
the village of Brussels and if
it hadn't been for a couple of
key injuries could possibly have
won the All-Ontario title.
as they missed many opportun-
ities to put the puck in the nets.
Later in the day the same
team lost a 9-2 decision to the
Monkton Pee Wees in the first
game of the Zone 2 semi-final
playoffs. The second game will
be played sometime this week
and on Thursday the team travels
to Mildmay to play in the Mild-
may Pee Wee Tournament.

A three goal performance by
Ken Cousins led the Brussels
to a 5-2 victory over the visit-
ing Listowel Tykes. A tight def-
ence held the Listowel team at
bay for the first two periods
and Brussels held a 3-2 edge
going into the final period. The
final period saw the local boys
slip two goals into the Listowel
net and at the same time only
allowed five shots on their own
goal.

Brussels came out on the
short end of a seesaw battle
with Walkerton Tykes by a final
score of 4-3. This was a warm-
up game for the Brussels play-
ers as they prepare to play in
the Listowel Tyke Tournament on
Thursday and the Blyth Tyke
Tournament on Saturday. The
Brussels boys played well against
Walkerton and at times kept them
bottled up in their own end for
several minutes at a time but
were unable to put the puck behind
the very agile Walkerton goalie,
whose many fine saves proved the
key to his teams victory.
