The Brussels Post, 1972-03-15, Page 10D. S. Lawless, Ottawa, has been appointed director of Ontario Educational Resources Allocation System as of June 1st, 1972. Mr. Lawless was a former public school teacher at Walton and he and his family will be moving to Toronto.- Mrs. Don Nolan was a patient in the Wingham Hospital fora few days. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bryans, Brussels, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Traviss, prior to leaving on a trip to South America. Miss Pearl Thamer visited Mrs. Luther Saunders, Constance. Mr. and Mrs. Ken McClure, Winthrop, Mrs. Alice. Armstrong of Pilot Mound, Man., and Mrs. Russell Consitt of Zurich, also visited at the same home. Mrs. Alvin. McDonald opened the meeting with the Call to Worship, followed with hymn "The Day of Resurrection" . Mrsaim Fritz was pianist.The scripture from John 5: 1 - 10 was read by Mrs. A. McDonald., Mrs. James. Smith took thel wdrds "Hallowed be Thy Name" i from the "Lord's Prayer" as her topic. Mrs. Alvin McDonald, read a: poem entitled "Purpose". "Jesus Christ is risen to-clay was sung. Mrs. Don McDonald conducted the business. The minutes were read by Mrs. George McCall. The roll call was answered by eleven members. Invitations were re- ceived from Northside United, Seaforth and Moncrief churches and plans were made for the Boy i -Scout supper. Copper money and) regular collection was taken. Lunch was served by Mrs.Don' Fraser, Mrs. George McCall and the hostess. The Afternoon Unit of the U.C.W. held its regular meeting at Miss Skelton's home with 17 members in attendance. Mrs. Miller used "Easter " as the theme throughout the devotions. A poem "Easter Flowers" was read as a Call to Worship. The Scripture, John 20, relating part of the Easter Story was given by Mrs. Hemingway. Mrs. Parker led in prayer. An interesting reading entitled "Easter 1972" was read by Mrs. Miller. Miss Lucas presented the topic "Changes in Africa". In many of the 38 new nations, a great wave of prosperity is taking place. Some cities have increased three times their population with new schools and building developments every- where. In Ghana alone 30% of the budget is spent on education. This stunning progress achieved within a few years accents many serious problems faced by 8 million people of Biafra, i. e. unemployment, housing shortage, lack of medical care for orphans and an acute shortage of funds for everything. Nevertheless these• people are trying to forge a new life amidst the rubble. The next meeting will be at the home of Miss Lucas on Tuesday, April 4. 10—THE BRUSSELS POST, MARCH Mr., and Mrs. Bill Fleming, '''Clinton, visited Mr. and Mrs. Herb Traviss. Mr. and Mrs. Barry Marshall of Corunna , formerly of Walton, are in Mexico holidaying for a month's vacation. While there they are visiting George Taylor who has spent the winter months in Brownsville,, Texas. Mrs. Merton Hackwell has been supply teaching for a few days, as a result of Miss Norris of the Seaforth Public school, teaching staff, being involved in a car accident. Mr. and Mrs. Neil McGavin have returned home after flying to Jamaica for a week's holi- days. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Johns- ton and family of Auburn visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Murray Smith. Mrs. Aubrey Toll, princi- pal of Walton Public School and Mr. J.w,, Talbot, principal of Seaforth Public School planned several events to encourage parents and others view some activities taking place in the schools, last week being Edu- cation Week. Miss Geraldine Dennis, Reg. N. of Hamilton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Dennis of Stratford , formerly of Walton area, was guest of honor at a miscellaneous‘,shower held at the home of Mrs. Jack Bosman, when members of the McKillop Unit attended, along with Mrs. Cliff Ritchie, R.R. 3, Walton, Miss Ruth Ritchie Reg. N. of Hamil- ton, Miss Ethel Dennis and Teenie Dennis of Seaforth, and Mrs. Norval Stimore of Egmond- vine.
