Grant Advances
Conservation Area.
A provincial grant of
$7,000.00 to the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority for the
Brussels Conservation Area has
been approved by the Ontario
governMent according to an
announcement by Murray Gaunt,
MPP for linrOn,Bruce and Geo..
A. Kerr, Minister of Bnviron,
ment.
The conservation Area will
comprise some 50 acres of land
and water in the. Village of Brus-
sels, and the Township of Grey.
The grant inakes possible the
acquisition of land in the
BrUSsels dam area. By com-
bining this land with that pres-
ently owned by the Village, a
substantial step will be taken
toward creating a municipal
green belt which will provide
recreation areas and protect
flood plain land.
All member municipalities
will bear the Authority's share
of the cost.

Accidents investigated by the
Wingham Detachment of the Ont-
ario Provincial Police include:
On Saturday, March 4 a snow-
mobile driven by John Glousher,
Blyth went out of control on
County Road 12, 1.5 miles south
of Brussels and flipped over.
The driver was admitted to W ing-
ham and District Hospital for
treatment. Prov. Const. R. F.
Wittig investigated.
On Saturday, March 4 a col-
lision at the intersection of
Flora Street and Elizabeth St.
in Brussels, resulted in an est-
imated $300.00 damage. A 1966
Pontiac driven by Grace Lowe,
Brussels collided with a 1972
Plymouth driven by John Bow-
man. _Brussels. Charges have
been preferred. Prov. Const. H.
B. McKittrick investigated.
A two car collision, on Fri-
day, March 3, one half mile
south of Belmore resulted in an
estimated $400.00 damage to the
two vehicles. A vehicle driven
by Lana McKague, RR #2, Wing-
ham went out of control on an
icy patch of roadway while at-
tempting to make a right turn.
The second vehicle which was
being driven by Guenter Heim,
RR #1, Wingham was attempting
to pass the McKague vehicle and
the two vehicles collided. Prov.
Const. G. L. FOulon investigated.
On Thursday, March 2 a two
car collision of sideroad 30-31
Turnberry caused minor damage

from Brussels United, St. John's
Anglican, Melville Presbyterian
and St. Ambrose R. C. Church,
Brussels, attended the "world
Day of Prayer" service held in
St. Ambrose R. C. Church on
Friday afternoon.
The theme of this year'S
service was "All Joy Be Yours".
Ladies participating were
Mrs. Jerry Ryan, Leader;
Extemporary prayers were given
by Mrs. Wm. King Sr., Mrs. Jim
Smith and Mrs. Harold Thomas.
Mrs. Winnifred Edgar and
Mrs. Walter Kerr rendered the
duet "My Garden Of Corn-

Damage was estimated at$375.00
to the vehicles involved by the
investigating officer Prov. Const.
G. L. Foulon.
On Monday, February 28,
Marlene Shiell, Listowel was
admitted to Listowel Memorial
Hospital with fractures, after
the vehicle she was driving went
out of control on icy roads and
went into the ditch. Collision
occurred on County Road 12, one
mile and a half north of Highway
86. Damage was estimated at
$250.00. Collision was investi-
gated by Prov. Const. W. R. Bell.
On Thursday, March 2, a
vehicle driven by Charles Wilson,
Blyth went off the road on High-
way 4 causing $350.00 damage
to the vehicle. The collision res-
ulted when Mr. Wilson was blinded
by the high beams of an oncom-
ing car. .Collision was investi-
gated by C. F. Ricker.
Brussels players captured the WOAA Midget E trophy
when they defeated Lions Head 10 - 4. The team now is

Brussels Council
Purchases Dog Trap
Brussels council declared
all out war on stray dogs at a
meeting Monday evening when
approval was given for the pur-
chase of a dog trap.
During recent weeks atten-
tion of the public has been drawn
to the legal requirements con-
cerning dogs, stressing the need
to obtain licenses and to keep
dogs from running at large.
Council discussed at length
the sewer requirements of the
village and the steps that could
be taken but reached no decis-
ion.
In other routine business
council met with representatives
of an insurance company to

The winning tickets of the
Beigrave Juvenile Hockey draw
were drawn Saturday night dur-
ing the Belgrave ice Carnival.
The first prize of $25. went to
Donald Vincent, 2nd prize of
$10 was won by Mrs. John Car-
Michael, both of Belgrave.

Congratulations to our
Brussels Tykes who came home
from the Lucknow Flea
Tournament with the LucknOw
Legion Trophy. They won all
three of their games to capture
the trophy. In an exhibition game
against Milverton they trounced
their opponents 8 - 0. Their
goal, tender, Jimmy Scott,
chalked up his fifth shut-out for
this season, a fine record for
him, and his teammates.
