Councillor Ross Smith was unable to be present. :Mutes of the last meeting were read and adopted on motion of Robt. 'Grasby and Thos. Miller. It was agreed that Jas. Mair look after rwairs to the Sellers' and King and Ross Snlitli the Mason Drain. Robt. Grasby was appointed commissioner for the Michie Drain. The tender of Seaforth Drain- age and Construction, Seaforth to construct the Michie Drain -for $3,400. was accepted. By-law No. 17, 1971 was passed as given first, second and third readings. The net result i s an insurance plan that is much more attractive to high producing growers following top management practices. Under this syateM a. good: grower benefits in two ways. As well as starting at a higher level, his coverage auto- matically increases at the same time as his insurable yield in- creases. This increase in prote- ton from year to year takes place at no additional charge to the grower. The cost bet acre for this new insurance is $2.00 for the low range coverage and $4.50 for higher range coverage. How- ever, with the additional assist- ance to Crop Insurance recently announced by the Hon. Win. A. Stewart, Minister of Agriculture and Food, the Ontario and Feder- al 'Governitnen4 will *pay half the premium costs, leaving the in- sured grower With the price of only $1.00 per acre for low cover- age and $2.25 per acre for high range coverage. 'the new plan offered this year also contains a bonus benefits at no extra cost to the farmer, such as a. reseeding payment on acre- age damaged by winter-kill and increased protection against loss where wheat is' reduced in grade due to a. weather hazard. Applioaions for winter wheat insurance must he made with the local Crop Insurance agent on or before October 1. County Agri- cultural offices can supply inter- ested growers with additional information and refer them to. their nearest agent.
