CHARLES THOMAS HEADS:
HURON •FEDERATION i FOR
SECOND CONSECUTIVE TERM
World-wide birth control is
necessary because man has' up-
set natural population controlk
a clergyman told a group Of
Huron County farmers.
Rev. E,, D. Stuart, minister of
the Brucefield and Kippen Unit-
er Church charges, and retired
RCAF wing commander, was the
speaker at the annual meeting
of the Huron County Federation
of Agriculture. He is a former
Senior Protestant RCAF chaplain
in Ilurope.
He said the world's population
will he doubled, in 33 years at the
present rate of growth and he
wondered how the population
would be fed because farmers are
becoming a "disappearing breed,"
limes, he said.
There are 5.000,000 Persons,
equal to one-quarter of Can-
ada's population — starving
right now in, two Indian prov-
inces. he said, he said,
The problem of starvation now
facing the world is the main mot-
ive for farmers to "feed the
world."
"Tn the name of God, no mat-
ter what goes on, don't go on
strike." he told the audience of
farmers "The world is on the
brink of starvation."
A Brucefield farmer said com-
modity groups should have no
voice in county federations of
rgriculture.
Malcolm Davidson was on a
five-man panel discussing the
role of the county federation and
the necessity of township feder-
ations,
Mr. Davidson, recently appoint-
ed by Ontario Agriculture Min-
ister W. A. Stewart to a com-
mittee studying the improve-
ment. of farm income level, said
county federations should be corn-
oriseel of iownshiu federations.
While COMM° dity groups are
Made tip of farmers, they tend to
vote in a way which benefits their
cr»nmodity hoard and this maY
not be in the best interests of the
general farm public.
Charles Thomas. of Brussels.
was re-elected president of the
l'Inron federation for his second
consecutive term, First vice-
president is Elmer Hunter of
Goderich, and second vice-presi-
dent llobert Henry of Blyth. Mrs.
Ted 'Fear. of RR5. Brussels, was
