Variety Concert Aids
Local Clinic Fund
The program committee of the
Mental and Dental centre were
sponSorS of a variety concert
last Thursday evening, when
a large prowd turned out to sup-
port this worthy cause,
The concert consisted of sever-
al out-of-town artists as well as
our own excellent performers
from the Brussels area. Rev.
Allan Johnston, in his usual way
was a most entertaining M.C.
The committee thanks him for
giving of his time.
The Program was as follows:

Julie Caimphell; igordon Ross,
accordian; Marjorie Procter,

duet; Osborne Sisters, tap danc-
ing; Ross Cardiff, accordian;
Andrew Illiemstra, singing and
guitar; Clark Johnston, Laugh-
ing Song.
These performers displayed
their-several talents much to the
delight of the audience and by
the applause were enjoyed by all,
The coenonittee most sincerely
thank all these folks for the time
and effort given for this concert.
Mr; Hehb Stretton spoke on
behalf of the Centennial project
and also the Medical Centre which
we are so interested in.
Plans are in progress now for
a Robbie Burns concert with a
real Old t yme Dance afterward,
to be held the latter part of Jan-
nary and also on Trish Night the
latter part of March. So keep
these in mind and with the talent
and help of our own Jack Thynne
-we know everyone will he looking
forward to both these nights.
Thanks again to all those taking
nart. We have the Medical Centre

growing. .

The Executive of the Brussels
Figure Skating Club held a meet-
ing in the library on October 31st.
Arrangements are being made
to determine a starting dat,e.•fer
lessons which will be announced

Hallowe'en Quiet
In Brussels
Hallowe'en in Brussels was
comparatively quiet. Young
ghost and goblins were out for
"trick or treat" and older mis-
chievous imps were at work on
windows and some tomatoes were
tossed around but no serious
damage was reported in the
village.

Fire Destroys Buildings
Fire destroyed the remain-
ing portion of a vacant house,
two rooms, kitchen and wood-
shed, on the farm of Alvin.
McDonald on the 16th concession
of Grey Township. about four
miles south of Brussels.
The building used for storage
and GO bushels of grain and 300
tile Were lost in the fire, The
larger portion of the grain that
had been in storage there had,
'fortunately, been sold a month,
ago. The loss was covered by
insurance.
The laleDonelds had passed by
their farm where the builling was
located, c,n their way home from
London and seen a car parked
in the vicinity and suspect that
ihe occupants were. setting the
fire at that time.
The OPP, Wingham detachment,
are investigating.
Several building in 1VicKillop
and elsewhere were also destroyed
by fire,
In Walton an Outdoor privy,
stacked with tires etc, was burn-
ing furiously at about 2:15 am.

trophy was donated by the man-
ager and coach.
The evening was spent
games and contests.

The St, Ambrose Altar Society
held their October meeting in the
church ball in the form : of a soc-
ial evening, The ladies' organ-
izations of the local churches
were invited to hear the guest
sneaker, Mrs, S. S. Cheney who
is the president of the Stratford
Branch of the Canadian Arthritis
and Ttlieurnati sni Seciety, She
was accompanied by Mrs. Wil-
fred Taylor a physiotherapist who
works with the society Seventy-
five guests enjoyed the topic and
presented and a. question
and answer period followed as
the ladies displayed aids and
equipment promoted by the Soc-
iety for stricken patients of this
dreaded disease.
Mrs. Margaret Kelly introduced
the gueets of the evening and
Mr. Lawrie Cousins assisted them
with the films. Mrs. James Nolan
thanked Mrs, Cheney and Mrs.
Taylor for their informative talks
and presented them with a don-
atian to the Canadian Arthritis
and Rheumatism Society from St.
,Ambrose Altar Society,
The latter part of the evening
took on a social air with tha
guests participating in a charade.
Mrs. J. Simpson was the winner
of the door-prize and Mrs. W.
Brown had the lucky cup at
lunch. Mrs. Campbell won the
maze for tile guest celebrating a
birthday that evening.

the guests bringing the evening

where it was being repaired, and
with deliberate intent knocked

erected stop signs and ended the
malicious act by dumping the
tractor into the Maitland River,
just east of the bridge

sels, is the first herd to qualify
under the elite herd policy for
saline recently introduced - by
the Ontario Departinent of Agri-
