Here are some hints from the
Department of Transport to help,
YOU keep your attention focused
on the complex job of driving
duling a busy holiday weekend,-
1. Pay attention to the traffic
signs and • signals. They're
there to help traffic move
smoothly and safely.
2. Plan yoltr trip in short hops
so you won't have to travel
LOG far at a stretch.
3. Watch out for highway hyp-
nosis" particularly on long
straight stretches of road. Tt
you do find yourself becoming
drowsy. stop for a rest but
be sure to pull well off the
travelled part of the road,

stare. Your eyes should move
from side to side to get the
full picture of the traffic sit-
uation ahead.
6. Cheek your rear-view mirror
frequently so you'll know
what's developing behind
you.
7. Signal your intentions well
in advance' if your'e going
to pass or change lanes. On
multi-lane highways, check
the blind spot to the right
before pulling back into the
driving lane.
