I refer to the subject a business making more money as result of the expected boost in tettrini and commerce in general. It is, of course, quite right that the spirit of our birthday celebra- tions should maintain a tone in keeping with Canada's national and historical significance as our Parliament expressed it in an Act. 1967. Nevertheless I continue clare, in spite of the concern of a fevr of my friends, that it is no sin for the keepers. of hotels, motelS,restaurants, roadside lunch stands, shops and the hundreds of thousands of other Canadian businessmen, large and small, who will be selling increased amounts of Pal*, flags, =Steal instruments, gasoline and trans- portation, to look forward to an Increase in revenues in the year 1.t is to be hoped,' of course, that an will realize the import.. ante of fair business conduct, Let it not be said by any tourist in our country that he was unfairly exploited during his visit. Just to show that there need be no fear et character damage to a Canadian who tries to do better, financially, during the contenInal 1 point .out to uo less a dignified body than the Cauad- lan Travel Bureau, Tile Govermeat, Travel Bureau hopes to attract a gross income from tourists from other count- ries of, one billion dollars in 1967. The Bureau also has greatly in- creased its budget for advertis- ing outside Canada to help pro- duce that hoped-for income. Knowing that there is a solid national effort, to produce greater tourism ninny will be encour- age to accelerate their business activity in the community, par- ticularly with respect to pro- motion, in a way that produces local business revenue, and at the same time boosts the Centennial, as a national celebration, along with the national economy. Local merchants can do things with their shop windows, counters and advertising 'which will in- crease sales and at the sarn.s.e, time add to the festive atmosphere for the •Oentennial. Local industries can build thoir eerporate prestige by going along with our national beauitiiictitioni program:, Making their properties more attractive, laugseuping, eleaniug up and painting up it,10 perhaps putting up a new ilug pole tor the cute- Orations. ukLers taw eau get, 011 Laid 1)a/W.1124;0u Lou.
