GENTLEMEN'S, CLUB

Last Tuesday morning the topic
at the Sinners Club was snakes.
The regulars were there, the
whole dirty dozen, a caste pi:
curious characters, criminally
inclined. One stranger was there.
I took him for Rivard, but not so.
He seemea to know more about

like Me to tell you about the
strange experience I had with a
whoop snake, years ago, Now
whoop snakes were not as plenti-
ful as the wild pigeon, but they
did become extinct about the
sane time. 'this reptile, was a
slim type, not much bigger
around than a garden hose but
sometimes 30 feet longs It had
a long tail, and used this as a
weapon. It would gran, the tail
in his mouth and then start to
roll. It was the quickest living
critter on earth. - When it struck
it just opened its mouth and the
tail hit with tremendous speed.

rolling towards us. The old mare
did her best but had no chance.
Anyway, the tail hit the hub on
the hind wheel. It hit so hard it
raised the other side of the
vehicle two feet off the ground.
We kept going, but ams, 'I coula
