KNOX CHURCH, BELGRAVE
MARKS 100th ANNIVERSARY
The 100th anniversary of Knox
United Church, Beigrave, was
celebrated on Sunday with morn.
mg and evening services and a
special congregational dinner.
Guest speaker at both services
was Rev. Beverly Oaten, of
Kitchener. Dr. Oaten was born
in Belgrave and his father, Rev.
F. J. Oaten, was a former Meth-
odist minister at Belgrave.
The United Church at Belgrave
originated with the union of the
Methodist Presbyceria,n and
Congregational churcues in 1925.
Sunday's services actually
marked the centennial of the
Presbyterian congregation in,
Belgrave.
- • — The Methodist Cnurch was
established in 1852, when an
itinerate preacher known in the
church records, only as the Rev-
erend Mr. Atkins made his way
on snowshoes througn tat dis-
trict, holding services in the
settlers' cabins,
The first area Methodist
churches were both built on the
fifth concession of Morris Town-
ship, the Bethel church in 1853
on the north half of Lot 6, and
the Sunshine church in 1856
on the south half of Lot 10.
The original Presbyterian
church was built in 1865 and re-
placed in 1899 by the building
which later became the present .
Knox United Church.
The Methodists built a third
church in 1872 on the south half
of Lot 1, Con. 4, Morris Town-
ship. This church later was sold
to those Presbyterians who
voted to stay out of church
union, and still serves the i'resby.

The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a floor length
gown of Peau de Soie featuring
a chapel train and lily point
sleeves. And had a shallow scoop
neckline with embroidered pearls I
down the front. Her shoulder
length veil of chantilly lace and 1
seed pearls formed her crown.
She carried a cascade of pink
roses, fern, ivy and white steph-
anotis.
Miss Jean McFadden, sister of '
the groom, was maid of honour
dressed in a gown of emerald
green embossed Peau de Soie
with green feathered hat and
shoes to match. She carried a
cascade of bronze and yellow
mums with fern.
Joyce Blake, niece of the bride,
was junior bridesmaid wearing
a. gown of mint green embroider-
ed nylon over taffeta and green
crown.
Leo Deitner, brother of the
bride, and Gerald Blake, nephew
of the bride, -were ushers. James
and Bill Phelan, nephews of the
bride, were altar boys. Ronald
Huck of Guelph was grooms-
man.
The reception was held at the
bride's home. The bride's mother
wore a mint green Irish linen
dress with jacket and black
